Fibes drum score Last viewed: 10 minutes ago

Hi all, I was lucky enough to be the first one to grab thes Fibes drums today for a great price. They are pretty grimey but I think will clean up very nice. The cl add picture showed the bass front hoop and claws missing and the same for the 16 floor tom. But when I picked them up, yay! he had the hoop and all the parts plus a cool little Fibes box with even more parts. The sizes are, 24,14,16,18. I dont know much about these other than a buddy of mine had a golden/brass color set back in the seventies. Anyway, it has been a good morning for me. Any guess to what year?

Great score your going to love the sound of those. I'm guessing but would say early 70's. I know they made FG and Acrylic shells. I believe they used wood shells as well saw a pair of Fibes timbales recently with wood shells.

From what I understand the original company made only fiberglass and acrylic drums. I think those are gretsch ts and claws in your first photo. Those will be great drums.

Yes, they are 70's exactly like mine, this is the set I gig with, HUGE sound from these, mine are 22" bass 13/14/16/18. The wrap I was told is stainless steel, heavy heavy drums.

Wow yours are awsome! Mine will not ever look that good, they have rust spots on them so It cant be stainless steel. I am wondering what to use to clean with, probably try krudcutter first. If that dont work I wonder if they can be re-wraped . Thanks for the input!

Jeff, Thats a nice set.By the badges it would date from 1973-76,yes these are fiberglass shells.Fibes did make maple shells but thats when the company was sold and Fibes move to TX...In the late 60's-to the late 70's fibers only made F/G and vista shells. In the first photo the T-rods and claws are 70's Gretsch but i also see the 6 T-rods on the right in photo these look to be Fibes do they have a "F" at the end? Also in the right of photo the two wing screw parts maybe the "T's for the T-rods Fibes made the T=rods in two pieces. If the "T's have a thread then these are the threaded wing screws for top of cymbal stands..Oh the photo of the bass drum the back side has the right Fibes T-rods and claws....Mikey

Mikey, there is an F on the end of the screws. Funny, I didnt even notice the different claws, Ill have to go look. I saw this on C/L and called and an hour later they were in my shop. I need a few things like a spur for the BD and mabye the claws, have to see if the ones I have will work.

Anyone ever re-wrap these fiberglass drums? The existing is just too rusty to save. Or I jus might clean em up and use em for my " shop drumset". I noticed last night that the 14" tom had a rim with Slingerland Radio King engraved on it, and a magnent will not stick to it.
