Sorry to hear that. I hope you can find a workable (and affordable) solution! I'm sure you will. The shells you polished turned out really nice.

You could just do the snare and 16. If you don't like the mismatch and do like the new product, order te rest of it. You will be out some shipping costs but hopefully the overall material costs will not change.

As to value, there is truth to that as that is what this market values. On the other hand I am a fan of drums that look pristine. If you had a vintage car and the paint job was still intact but oxidized, you would repaint without a second thought. In fact, you would be ridiculed if you didn't. No one would be screaming that there was still some life and mojo in that candy apple red.

Very good point, and if I dont intend on selling them (which I dont) then the value means nothing anyway. I will more that likely oreder the materail for the two drums, try it out and see how it goes.

Jeff, I would see if you can get a small piece of the new wrap and put it next to the wrap on the drums you have see how they match up..If you dont like the way it does.I would think about a rewrap on all the drums in a nice plastic wrap finish..Be the way i still have the bass drum leg if you still are looking....Mikey

Well I cleaned up and polished the bass drum and have decided to only rewrap the rusty snare drum I bought from flee-bay and the 16" floor tom that I went berzerk on. Tomorrow I will order the stainless steel for the two drums. I learned a big lesson with these drums, never, ever remove wraps until you have made every attempt to save them. I usually dont get in a hurry and do stupid things like this, not sure what happened. Anyway, I will let you know when I get the steel and keep this thread going.

Take a look at the 14" tom below. It is the best drum of them all, but the others are not bad at all also.

The new stainless steel that I bought has arrived. Here it is with the protective film pealed back. Can’t wait to get to work on the Fibes kit. I started another project while I was waiting for the metal, so, I have to finish it first. This metal is 24 gauge, much thicker than the original wrap. It will work fine, just need to figure out what adhesive to use for metal over fiberglass. It will be a while before I get back to this one but I will keep this post going.

Where did you get the steel? I've been checking vendors and all they have is various types of chrome plastic.

I bought the steel from this place,

http://www.shopstarlandmetals.com/contact-us.aspx

I purchased two pieces, one for the snare drum I bought on e-bay and one for the 16" floor tom that I removed the wrap from. Total cost was 95.00, 50.00 of that was shipping but they did a very good job of packaging the steel. I could have done the entire kit which is 10x14 tom, 16x16 FT, 16x18 FT, 14x24" bass drum, 5x14" snare and two 1/2" wide inlays for the hoops, all for 240.00, thats including the shipping. I priced plastic wrap from you know who and it was very close to 240.00 and that was without the snare and inlays. Plus, the 18 and 24" drums would have to be done in two pieces. So its interesting to learn that 24 guage stainless steel was cheeper than actual drum wrap. But before you go out and buy steel for an entire drum kit, wait and see how mine goes as far as working with it. THe steel bends around the shell but takes some force to get the end of it flat. I might need to go to a metal shop and have it rolled. I will probably start a new thread in the restoring section after its all done, but that will be a while.
