Fibes drum score Last viewed: 1 minute ago

jc,

Great score. They're great drums and you got great sizes.

As a long-time Fibes user, here's my two cents. Part of the Fibes look is the particular wraps they used. You can get real metal laminate from kitchen-counter companies. 5 mins on Google will turn up a dozen of 'em. Not cheap perhaps, but it would be the most authentic re-wrap.

I would not even consider any of the plastic metal wraps - in a couple months they'll be so scratched you'll want to re-wrap them again. I also would not consider painting them--partly because of the work involved, and partly because no Fibes fiberglass drums were painted.

Here's something to consider: leave them natural, with just a clear topcoat. I saw a Fibes kit on eBay years ago that was a NOS NAMM demo, with no wrap at all so the music retailers could see how the drums were made. Leaving it natural would be completely authentic. Those drums sold for a hefty price.

I bought, from the same seller, a Fibes snare with the same provenance. Natural, NAMM demo. Kept it for several years, and recently sold it...it was snapped up by Steve Maxwell for my full BIN price, which wasn't cheap.

Here are a couple pics of it:

Your right. One thing is I am not in a hurry. I am really looking into chrome metal sheeting that will be as close to origional as possible. Otherwise, I found a place that will cut brushed stainless steel ( like you see on appliances now) to the exact size and ship to me for just under 200.00. To good to be true? Jeff C

Jeff, that sounds like a similar price to pre-cut plastic wrap from just about anywhere and a BETTER price than on sparkles, glitters, & oysters!

Thanks for posting that link. Interesting merchant! I couldn't tell if they had mirror-finish sheets, so I sent them an inquiry about it.

That is a great site.... decent prices too.

The stainless rounds make good replacement bass legs.

Ya just figuring out how to polish the gray stainless to a nice shine, like chrome. I really dont want the drums to look like a refrigerator. I also have a leed on some aluminum. But idealy, chrome sheet metal, thats what I want.

Try this place, but be ready to empty your pocket. I figured it would take over 500 to do my kit, now with the snare drum added in the mix.,,,

I am not understanding NOS, (nickle over steel lugs??) or NAMM ?? The picture of your snare is really cool but I can tell you that spraying clear on the bare fiberglass drum shell is not going to pruduce that look. Here is my naked shell,

Thanks. Fascinating choice of finishes. Site says the metal finishes are real metal covered with a layer of Lexan polycarbonate.

The sheets are 3x3', but they offer a roll of material 10" high and 12' long. Doesn't help much for a kit, but would be good for snares.

Hmm.

YOu know, Fibes offred a butcher block "Formica" type of wrap that would be so easy to do. Problem is, I hate that finish. Another one they offered was again a "Formica" Teak wrap. That one would I could do in a Teak veneer and would be beautiful but I would not do it in plastic laminate (Formica) and the vener is not origional at all. So the search is on for that very same chrome metal that was on the drums. I dont think Fibes ever offered Stainless steel on their drums. Mine were chrome but covered with rust, if it were stainless, it would not rust, correct? I will keep you all posted the next few days on what I find as far as chrome sheet metal.
