Blair,

Don't worry, that drum was firmly in my grasp. I had it pressed into my side like you wouldn't believe. It was heavy as well. Still worth getting though.

Congrats to everyone who's replied to this post. I'll be on either Jim Murray's or Mark Coopers booth all weekend "guarding" treasure.

COME ON MAY !!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I posted these up awhile back, but it really didn't get much attention. If you guys want a tee-shirt with VDF on it, grab this artwork I created (you have my permission,) and make a disc copy of it in jpeg format. Take the disc to any 'tee-shirt guy' at the mall and have them print one shirt for you. You don't have to depend on anybody else. Make your own shirt! There are transfer papers that you can buy that allows you to iron-on any image you print on the paper.I made two versions; one for black on white and the other for white on black. Use them if you want to. Like I said, it'll allow you to print up your own VDF tee-shirt.This is an unauthorized logo. Dave hasn't seen or approved anything. This is just something I whipped up so you guys can identify each other more easily.Enjoy. I hope you decide to use them.John

It has been about 5 years now since I 'met' you all. While in some ways I consider myself a veteran of all this - this year I have my kids that weekend and again - will not be able to make it - have not yet ever. I would not bring my kids to this as they do not share my enthusiasm for drums (not enough yet) and money is still an issue at this time. I even have a brother who lives in Chicago and have been there several times.

Ya know - I suppose someday I will be shooting a bunch of pics of all my stuff and will just carry around a photo album around the show! That said - it is obvious why it is just not yet meant to be, as I have so many projects that I have that I have not been able to get to - many reasons. This gives me time to get some kits done before I make it over there!

I am eager to meet many of you and suggest VDF shirts - with USERNAMES on there as well (unless we all want to wear badges or "Hello" stickers!) Attention PurdieShuffle

I will enjoy the pics and videos as usual and wish you all a very safe blessed thrill of a weekend!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Sorry you wont' be able to attend the show. Hopefully one of these times you will. Then you'll understand why we "harp on" about it !

Just made my travel reservations. Kansas City to Chicago for $1 on an overnight bus, $5 for the return. Not glamorous, but with all the money I save on gas, maybe I can buy something nice.

The schedule is tentative right now, but at 11:00 on Saturday in the Master Class room I should be doing a presentation/discussion on serial number based dating of Ludwig drums. Beyond just linking serial numbers and date stamps, I have been able to link numerous changes in hardware, interior finishes, badges, etc... to serial number and date ranges. A lot of what I will say is pulled from my recently published guides.

Looking forward to the show.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72
