Took me a while but I finally found the perfect 2nd floor tom for my 60s blue sparkle, the add-on floor is even close in badge numbers! Two 16x16s and I absolutely love them, they sound really great together!
2 floor toms rule.
I us two 16" on my radio king kit, I love two floor toms. Very nice looking kit Timmy !
1 up, 2 down is one of my favorite set-ups! Keep your eyes peeled for a 14"x14", (14", 16" floor toms,) that's the set-up you'll really have some fun with. Congrats.

I like 12 rt, 14 and 16 ft at the moment, at least at my practie space...
I was wondereing: who could have used this set-up early on? I know Ginger Baker used 14 and 16. I'm especially interested in jazz: I'm aware of later Elvin Jones, and Bill Stewart comes to mind these days.
Awesome looking kit Timmy!

1971 Slingerland 13,16,22 in Black Sparkle
1979 Rogers XP-8 Super Londoner Tobacco Sunburst

Numerous Snare Drums
I've had quite a few 1-up/2-down kits! Currently, I have a 1968 Slingerland BR kit that is almost ready for some "Sing, Sing, Sing"! Also have a Ludwig, late 1970 Super Classic, plus an additional 16" floor tom.

That's an excellent question and almost deserves a separate thread! I'll do a little home work, I'll let you know if I turn up anything. I would imagine, that the 14", 16" set-up may have originated in the 50's among jazz players and then crossed over to Rock with players like Ginger and Mitchell etc. Interesting question.

Beautiful Blue Sparkle set ! I also play a one up two down configuration when I have plenty of stage room. I will use a 14" 16" or 16" 18", even 14" 18", I have a 14" up 15" and 18" down configuration I am experimenting with right now. So far so good. I also like two up on a double tom stand and two down with the bass drum angled so I can still get my ride next to the bass drum.
Very nice love the set up my kit has the 16 and 18 they r cool
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp
once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Thanks everyone! I really appreciate it!
Purdie, I definitely am! They are just so pricey though! Maybe I can snag one at the drum show ;]
idrum4fun, I love your kit!! It has that 70s 'it' factor allll over it and I dig it!
Sebco, I hope to have that setup someday! Great question too!
Thanks Derek!
Thank you Vibes, and thats really cool! Love the experimenting!
