Need Help 1928/29 Super-Ludwig Black Beauty Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Found an interesting clue, was going through our catalog scans and noticed one thing sticks out. All the Super Ludwig snares have Super Ludwig engraved to the right of the throw-off, yours has it to the left. The only Super Ludwig that has that, is called the Super Ludwigold, BUT, it does not come with an engraved gunmetal shell. Yours does. So I found your trim and stick-throw and Left of the snaregate Super Ludwig hoop in that finish, but not drilled for that shell.

Am I seeing where it says Super Ludwig on the bottom hoop to the right of the throw ? They didn`t call it that until the thirties. Start at $2500 like VM2k suggested, I would and it wont drop, no matter how long, you`ll get that+

The name Super-Ludwig started in 1925-26 and was patented in Jan 1924. Here is some info:

beautiful drum! Hopefully it goes to Mike C. It will betaken care of in the best possible way, restored to original shape and housed with the best collection of snare drums on the planet. Not that someone else could'nt restore it either. I just know it would be in the best hands with Mike. Good luck!

This is so cool to see these rare drums ressurrected. I love following these types of threads to see where the story ends.

This is my first post here, I am not a drum guy and I would appreciate any additional info about this drum. I picked it up yesterday at a Thrift Store, I have been researching for hours...Is this a 1928 or 1929 (I believe '29, but "Super-Ludwig" is hyphenated)? Is the strainer a "Super"? Is it rare/desirable? What would be my best avenue for selling it? Thank you in advance, Peace!

Hi,

It looks like a 1929 Super-Ludwig 10-point flat top double lined floral pattern that was seen only on 1929 L&L DeLuxe Models...pgs. 60-61 in my book the only difference is that mine has gold plated hardware.

The drum could definitely use some restoration or at the very least some cleaning. I just finished restorting two of the exact same drums and they came out like champs...see attached...the drum in the photos looked like yours before my restoration...there is a lot involved so I won't waste space here but feel free to call me at: 650-595-2022 or email me at: mike@curottodrums.com and I will be able to tell you more...I'm betting that you didn't pay a whole lot for the drum so a restoration would be cost-effective, in my opinion.

Why am I not surprised that he has one. I wonder why they weren`t cataloged with that shell option !i

Gold plating was an option back then.
