Need Help 1928/29 Super-Ludwig Black Beauty Last viewed: 11 seconds ago

This is my first post here, I am not a drum guy and I would appreciate any additional info about this drum. I picked it up yesterday at a Thrift Store, I have been researching for hours...Is this a 1928 or 1929 (I believe '29, but "Super-Ludwig" is hyphenated)? Is the strainer a "Super"? Is it rare/desirable? What would be my best avenue for selling it? Thank you in advance, Peace!

You have one of the holly Grail's. look at this catalog scan. this drum I am showing is the same drum as yours but your drum has the super sensitive strainer on it. http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/ludwig_snaredrums/1929-ludwig-snare-drums-13.jpg

Thank you, do you know the year? Should I sell it on eBay? Should I clean it?

Unless you know what you're doing, leave the drum alone, as-is. Let the new owner refurbish/detail the drum. I don't know that ebay will produce the best price, but it will expose the drum to a much wider audience. That drum is worth whatever the high bidder is willing to pay for it. You should know that there is a part missing on one of the snare guards, a part the next owner will have to track down, but it shouldn't diminish the value of the drum at all.

Good luck with your sale. I wish I could afford one of these... it's a 'Bucket-List' drum for many drummers. What did you pay for it, if I may ask?

Thank you for the info, I do not know what I am doing, I will leave it alone. I do have two pieces, one came off of each guard (looks like the snare wires string through them, they are not "broken" off). One guard does have a break near the screw (the fold over piece, I guess). Where else (besides eBay) would someone sell such a drum?

you probably have the year model correct or very close the the adjustable strainer arm shows up in the 1930 L&L Catalog. Ebay is a way to go but you;ll pay them 14% of your sale to do so. we have some of the largest collectors on the planet here on this forum. you can place a for sale ad in the for sale section here on this forum. this is a valuable drum. Yes leave the cleaning and restoration work to those of us in the know.

Do you know what the value range is? I have no idea how to price it...

Relax, dude... he said he bought it in a thrift shop... innocent curiosity. Don't get your panties in a bunch over it. No 'offense' was intended by my question. If you were honest, you'd admit that you'd like to know how much he got it for yourself.

When you point a finger at somebody else, the other four of them are pointing back at -you-!

Relax...

Netsell4u - You can 'safely' start the bidding at $1200. then sit back and see if you get a bidding war started. I think you'll be surprised at what the drum will bring in.
