Slingerland kit complete

Loading...

Hello everyone, here are some shots of the Slingerland kit I have been working on for a few months. The snare and toms were shells that came from a purchase of several drums. Here is a link to the thread when I first got them.

http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=32351&highlight=slingerland+shells

The wraps were too far gone, I did try to save them but lost the battle. The biggest lesson learned here was if you can save origional wrap in any way, do it. The new wrap is nice but its too new. I like the vintage wrap much much more, just like everyone else. Got way too much invested, over 800.00.

Big thanks to Lucky for the free claws and good price on the 13" hoops. And Billnvick for trading the bass drum shell and throwing in the heads and logo last minute. And makurtz for giving me the hoops from his dads old kit. And Mikey777 for selling me most of the parts for a good price. You guys are the best.

Still need 2-COB 16" sticksavers, bass drum leggs and Badge.

BTW, ran out of cash, thats why no tom harware. I dont mind it on the stand, it works. But I did not fill the holes in the 13" so the plate could be bolted on with no trouble. The bass drum is different story, it was drilled for a pearl type mount, two big holes. I ended up patching the veneer on the inside of the shell and lost the origional mounting holes in the proccess.

Nice Jeff~! I've been waiting to see them all together. I dig em~! I think the wrap looks really good too. And in time it'll mellow with age I'd think. The best thing is they all match nicely. Mine are quite the oddball orphans as you'll see when they are done. 2 of the 4 have original wrap. How thick is the new wrap you used? I was under the impression the new wraps were almost paper thin. But the wrap I bought looks like 3/32" after the protective outer plastic is removed.

Is that a 24" bass??

Nice job Jeff. Having just finished detailing 4 kits I can't even imagine what a re-wrap involves. Enjoy them -

24" Bass, ya baby!

Wrap from jamin sam is very thick, about 1/16th would be close although I never measured it. I did go the tape method, would more than likley glue it on next time. Was hard to get the wrap pulled around tight. Was worried that shavings would get between the shell and the wrap also. Next wrap job will be with wood veneer and a killer finish.

Those look great! I would not worry about the tom hardware. I personally like the virgin bass drum look and the tom on a stand. plus like you said, You can still drill it for the hardware if you want to or if you sell it and someone else wants to. I would leave it as it is. Thats what I did with my Slingerland orphan build. You got a great looking kit there!!. ya know, we have to get the marine pearl that's available. You did good.

24" bass nice~! They sound killer too. Yea wrap seems the same thickness I have at about 1/16" or so. I was thinking the same thing about shavings when I do mine too. Drum Foundry wrap has a PSA option (pressure sensitive adhesive) but chose to glue it instead. Plus it'll give me time to shift it around if needed. This is my first wrap job so hopefully it'll go well. LOL. ;)
