Here is the before and after on mine.

I had two of these in the early 80s. This one was a bashed and discarded shell that I got for $30. It took a while to get it back in shape...but worth it.

I very nearly left it in the "brushed" stage, but went on to polish it and let it patina.

Here's my humble contribution. I bought this Ludwig LB-553 3"X13" piccolo snare new around '88. Right now it is in need of a good polishing, but back then, for a year or so, it was my main snare, playing loud funk/rock heavily inspired by The Red Hot Chili Peppers before their mainstream success. Heads cranked tight, with every backbeat a rimshot, this drum sounds killer and holds so many great memories for me. Jerry - Wow! What a great save. Was the shell professionally polished in a shop or did you do that yourself? Regardless, with the patina it's taken on, it's a stunning looking drum.

hack - Sweet piccolo! Those have to be kinda rare I would think. You could probably get more for yours than I could for my 5". There are fewer of yours around to be had.

I'm going to start shopping around for a copper shell to mess around with. If anybody spots one, please give me a heads up!

John

Too many great drums to list here!

My favorite snare. Sensitive, great feel.it just feels so luxurious to play. The band loves the sound. I'm just get too lazy to pack it sometimes. It weighs a ton!

Thanks, John. I wasn't sure I should bother posting it. I kept hearing that Louis Prima/David Lee Roth song in my head..."Just a Piccolo." Oh wait...that's not right!

crash - I am in the process of making my own Zildjian snare. However, I'm going for the original smooth 6.5 one.....

My humble contribution. A circa '90 BB with bronze shell. Stamp above muffler knob says BZ. She's definitely one of my lifetime keeper drums.

All done by hand by me. I did do the last and final buffing on my bench polisher that I use in my dental business.

Once all the dents were hammered out I began sanding with 100 grit sand paper. Went step by step all the way up to 1500 grit wet sand paper, then the buffing.
