:0) Sounds like someones in the market?!
1958 Slingerland Set Last viewed: 36 seconds ago
I think a Kenmore Kent is worth pretty decent money, maybe between $100-200!
Please let me know what else I should add to the description. If you can confirm or think anything needs to change that would be appreciated too.If someone can take a look at the other hardware and hihats that would be great.
As the owner of a 1958 Slingerland kit, I noticed that you don't have the original T-rods for the bass drum. Mine was missing 10 when I got it, so I can tell you from experience that they aren't very easy to find. However, I can post a picture of the correct ones and you could probably find someone on the forum that has some...I just happened to be talking with a fellow member about some vintage Zildjian cymbals and mentioned I was looking for some and he had what I needed. You may want to leave that to your buyer, though. They'll cost you either way.
The kit looks to be in real nice shape otherwise. I'd like to offer an estimated value of what you've got, but I'll have to defer to more knowledgable members - mainly because I think the snare you have is probably worth a little bit of folding money, but I don't have any idea because I've never seen one.

No longer an end table. :)

The guy I got the kit from said he "never replaced any of the hardware. Only some drum heads and the kick pedal. He was the only owner and he got them when he was 8."

I apologize for my misinformation. I looked at the catalog scan of the 2N kit that Glenn referred to and it looks like it has regular tension rods, not Ts. I also looked at the close-up pic of your rail mount, which shows a good shot of the tension rod. The head of the tension rod looks like a correct Slingerland. So, I believe he told you the truth and you do have the correct tension rods. Again, my apologies.

Not a problem. I'm just hoping to understand this set and it's worth a bit more. I have a few people wanting to buy it or some of it but I'm not real sure where to start until I know what I have.
Learning about them is pretty exciting either way.
I haven't read the entire thread, so please excuse me if this came up already...
The badge on that snare drum was removed and replaced at some point in its life. The question is, why? (see photos of inside of snare drum.) It 'could' affect the value.
Otherwise it looks like a real beauty.
Best of luck with your sale.
John
I'm not sure what you are looking at to determine that. I looked at the badge in the bass drum and it looks the same.
First I want to say thanks to everyone that is helping me here. I find this site full of drum loving kind people. I have learned a lot and have a ways to go. But THANK YOU ALL!
I have narrowed down the kit.
It is the New 2N Jobbing Outfit. Offered in the 1955 and 1959 catalogs.
After pulling the head off of the bass drum, the history is coming alive. There are two holes for cymbal mounts. However, no holes through the wrap. The wrap/finish is three pieces. One smaller on the bottom and one overlapping(on both sides) bigger piece covering 3/4.
Here are a few questions I have left:
1. Is it common to wrap the finishes in 3 pieces on the Bass drum?
2. Did Slingerland offer this set without the cymbal holders?
3. Would restoring add value or would it be in my best interest to sell and let the new owner decide that. (Either way I'm not keeping the drums.)
a. If I get them restored, how much would I be looking at spending. (Ballpark)
b. Would parts be available?
4. What is it worth? I have people asking me if I want to sell them but not offering anything on them. I would like to offer a good deal and get the best bang for my buck... or best buck for my bang.
5. Sell as a set or part it out?
