Jinx - Question... would it violate any company secrets to discuss the bearing edges on these drums? I'm curious what kind of edges Allen put on his shells. 45's, vintage style 30 degree round-overs, maybe straight-ahead round-overs like Gretsch, or Slingerland?John

They were originally a straight up round over done by Allen...and I do the same on all of ours.

Jinx - Thanx for the response, that kinda explains a lot about the resonance of the drums. Those old Gretsch drums with that straight-ahead round-over have a reputation for being musical sounding instruments. The increased head to shell contact that it provides contributes to the over-all tone of the drum greatly I imagine. It makes sense that drums that play like these do would involve some of the same mechanics/specs.

Vinny - First, because I can't say it enough, THANK YOU! It's always a blast doing any kind of business with you and this one was no different. Everything went as smooth as fine Chinese silk!

Today, tomorrow, ship at your convenience amigo. I still have six finger nails left! LOL I have plenty to chew on while I'm waiting. All kidding aside, now that I know the deal is done and they are coming, I think I can hold out without losing it until they arrive. electricit

Dream come true for me. Thanks again all for comments and well-wishes. Look for some new photos when they arrive. I'll show some before and after detailing shots. I have the Novus 1, 2, & 3 ready to rock! They'll look new when I'm done with them.

We have to do a photo display of all three kits! Jinx's natural green one, your white one and my black one! It'll be fun to see the three photos in one thread. Wait until I'm done detailing mine and then we'll post em up for everybody.

Just so you know John, that natural green kit is Jerry's. Mine is the white kit, with a few natural snares and timbale.

Yes, I know! The set for the Latin gig. That's the one I was talking about. I saw the shallow rack tom and figured it would make a killer timbale sound tuned high. I'll say it again... the set looks killer and perfect for the gig. It just 'looks like' a fun kit to play. Thanks for posting the shot!

I figured you knew that kit was Jerry's, I must have misunderstood you. As far as my timbale, it sounds great! We took all the hardware off one of those DW piccolo toms and used a cut-off to an older Blaemire shell. I was flying it off my hi-hat for the longest time, but was having problems with quick fills. Then I did a rehearsal and just brought the timbale and mounted it to the bass drum, it just felt much better there. One other thing I incorporated from the DW piccolo, was the use of their "fish" plate. I use RIMS mounts on my kit and always hated those big bulky square plates. I got the part # and ordered them from DW. Voila! They have a much more streamlined look to them.

It must be great to have a dedicated drum you can use for a timbale sound. I have always just flipped the snares off and do cross-stick-click stuff while playing the right hand stick out by the rim to get all those 'ringing' timbale tones. Having something dedicated right there you can go to must be a ton of fun to play.

Yes, that fish plate lets more of the drum show through. It's less visually obstructive. Was any spot welding involved or were you able to just swap out the fish plate for the big square plate?

Cool little drum. You can also get those mini-single-point-mount turret lugs from Ego Drum Supply! I've used them in the past on an old brass shell I acquired. Neat selection, you should check them out.

No spot welding. I just drilled a couple different holes on the RIMS mount and filled the empty holes with carriage bolts.
