Ok now I am curious. I know nothing about these drums but after doing some research I understand the two and three way tuning, but I don't understand how any drum could be two way only. It seems the only difference is the key.I must be missing something.
Just look at any normal snare drum...tune from the top, tune from the bottom = 2-way...
Mike Curotto
Nah...I have learned you can drive yourself completely nuts trying to always look for Gretsch/Rogers/Ludwig/Slingerland/Leedy/Camco/K.Zildjians etc..
You can spend your whole life doing that...
Also, why would I tell you to grab it,if it was already sold?
I'm sure as soon as you posted "I found this while out of town but didn't buy it yet.", your thread readers were frantically doing North American CL searches for "gladstone". I think the 283 views in less than 20 hours tells us readers were interested.
Another thing ... Rule #1, if anyone's going to ask the forum for opinions before a purchasing, it's wise to remove the location from your account profile.
I'd like to tell you there will be others, but I'm not so sure on this one. Sorry you missed it. :(

I figured there was a big risk of loosing it by posting, but I don't know enough to drop $350 on something I've never seen before and know nothing about. I suppose I should have just committed after the first 'Buy It' reply to my original post. I have no problem with anyone buying it after seeing my post. Go ahead and admit it now!!!
Thanks
Jim

I was under the impression "Three-Way" tuning was all done from the top T-rods, in the following manner:
1st - Batter Head Only; 2nd - Reso Head Only; 3rd - Both heads at once. BG developed this in the time of animal flesh skins. And as any of you tucked-head players know, tuning and temperature swings can be an issue.
Given the temp and humidity swings, in the days before computer-controlled building HVAC systems, room environments (Temp/Humid) could change during a performance. Thusly, affecting BG's drum tuning. He couldn't have that. He was a perfectionist. Don't forget, he was playing in Radio City Music Hall, so he had to be in tune.
We're packing and moving and Chet's book is in a box, somewhere. Wish I could refer to some deets, but I'm out of personal memory. Hope Chet chimes in, here.

PS - Apologies if this had been mentioned already.
Here's a video which explains the 3 way tuning system. The youtube description says he's asking $2375. I have no idea if it's still for sale, but I am going to curl up in a ball and cry now.

Sorry but I had a feeling that would happen when I saw your post. I highly suggest pm'ing a member here instead of posting a thread. Curotto is a straight shooter, knows his stuff and is a great person to start with.
I bought a George Way snare drum off of craig's list a number of years ago. It was posted on the forum and the consensus was that the guy was a nut job because one, he didn't post pics and second, his post was odd to say the least. The guy was a bit over an hour aWAY from me so I called him and he held the drum for me until the weekend. Turned out to be a minty red/black duco for $350. He was nothing like his ad, very nice guy.

1971-73 Camco Chanute Walnut 24/14/18 w/5x14 COB
3 way tuning... well that is just cool! I want one. If I hit that powerball... auto.pilot I'll buy you one to. :)
Thank you all for the explanations,,, love the forum.

There was a Gladstone 3 way WMP (w/ key I believe) at the Conn. drum show for $3500. I thought about it. I've never seen one before that.
