Thinking of going vintage Ludwig... Last viewed: 49 minutes ago

I've played Yammies for a long time, but thinking about selling the modern kit and going straight Ludwig 3 ply. Anyone just play vintage drumsets? Let's not include snare drums because in my view, some new snares are just as valid...like new Ludwig metal snares for example. Talk to me.

A dude .. :) that is just about all we play here but it is not just as simple as 3 ply there is 5 ply 6 ply 8 ply and a ton of other reasons to play vintage mostly they are built better have better hardware and the wraps are tons better if in still great shape.....

The more I think about it, the more I think my 60s Ludwigs are the sound. So much so that I'm ready to ditch my modern kit (of another brand). The only thing I think I'll miss is the better hardware, but I began using a snare stand to mount the rack tom, so that solves one issue. The only issue is try and keep the bass drum stable, since the bass drum legs are kind of whimpy on these old drums...

all I've got is vintage.

I've heard some great modern kits, but there is just something about playing an old kit.

all I've got is vintage.I've heard some great modern kits, but there is just something about playing an old kit.

And THAT from a young pup!

Shawn, every drum you play is older than you, right?

I love it when you younger guys come to the same conclusions as us old burps (from the other end)! Makes us feel like we've NOT lost all the marbles yet, anyway!

I rejoined the Slingerland fold a couple of years ago, but I can't bring myself to sell my Yamaha RCs.

Strangely enough, I think my guitarist prefers the Yamahas. I find that surprising, since he's such a dyed-in-the-wool vintage Fender guy.

The Slingerlands will always be my No. 1 kit, although I'm looking forward to debuting my clear Vistalites in a few weeks, and I admit to some curiosity about Ludwig stainless steel.
