So, I've sold off a few snares that I don't care much about and some assorted parts, but now I'm left with all "good" snares that I like to play/collect. That said, my wife is still pressing me to sell off more, so I thought I'd pose the question to see which you would sell if you were in the same position. Here is what I have: Candy Apple Red 1982 DB Tama Superstar 14 pc. '59 Slingerland Radio King Red Glass Snare 14 x 5 '67 Slingerland Sound King 14 x 5 Snare '73 Slingerland Super Sound King 14 x 5 Snare '69 Rogers Chrome 5-Line Dyna Snare 14 x 5 '68 Rogers Dayton Chrome Powertone Snare 14 x 5 Tama Superstar Candy Apple Red Snare 14 x 6 1/2 w/ Muffler Tama Superstar Candy Apple Red Snare 14 x 6 1/2 w/o MufflerThe Tama's go with my kit and are pretty rare, especially in their near new condition. As I see it, there are two that are up for grabs - '68 Powertone and '67 Sound King. The SK is in beautiful condition top to bottom. The Powertone is nice, though chrome could be a little better on the shell.I love them all...but sometimes need to make concessions for the peace of the household.ViolinWhat do you think?ps: I hate to, but for the right price, I might consider letting go of one of my Tama snaresCryBabyThanks all.

Is there any ammunition re: the number of snare drums that you own in proportion to the number of shoes your wife owns? Or can you appeal to her to try to understand how much these instruments really mean to you and maybe try the "rarity" card as some of your snare drums may be irreplaceable?

I don't know your situation and please do not take any offense as I mean no offense...I am just giving out my humble opinion which is that I don't think it is fair for your wife to insist that you sell off some of your snare drums. As I said, I do not know your situation so this is only my opinion and I realize that there may be some other factors involved that are certainly none of my business...

I wish you the best of luck with this.

Hey Mike, I hear what you're saying....the situation is really one of me knowing offering to sell one last snare versus her outwardly pressuring me. I could just leave things alone and it probably would be okay if I sold off the rest of the parts I have, but then if she did notice that I still had the same number of snares....well, its just kind of a trust thing between spouses.

My situation is that I am a hobby player, love the drums and probably have a thing for collecting in general. In her eyes, its more about me buying and keeping things, than actually having a true use for a number of snares. I was probably done a few years ago and then a couple of months ago I got the bug and bought a few more snares...the last one is my project SSK. That brought the whole issue up again....my bad.

So even for me, I think maybe I got carried awayDOH, and see selling off one more snare to be the smart choice.

I will decide soonCoffee Break2 and, if I decide to sell one of the two mentioned, I will contact those on this thread who mentioned being interested.

And, on the subject of shoes, I probably had her beat as at one time I had a "collection" of western boots most of which were exotic skin.

I've got a super wife and partner and she puts up with a lot of my craziness. For me to make a concession here or there is the smart choice.

Thanks!

HA! I wear the trousers in THIS household! I do whatever I want, whenever I want... whenever she says I can.

Makes me think of my wedding night...

"Can you put on those trousers here?", I ask my lovely.

"There's no possible way I could wear those", my wife answers.

"Exactly. Now you know who wears the trousers around here", I declare.

"Look at my lovely knickers. Could you wear them for me?" my wife asks.

"No, I can't get even get into them" I answer.

"Exactly. You will never get into my pants with that attitude" my wife answers with a snicker.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

I have to say I am probably a gigging drummer with the fewest snare drums on record- I have four: a Slingy marching snare that's apart, a Gretsch/OCDP lugs/Trick strainer w/two different types of wood hoops Frankenstein/bunnyman special and a weird piccolo with a wood top hoop and yellow metal bottom hoop that is almost a good drum once again (just needs a new strainer), and a Pearl M-80 on my practise kit. It seems like I have bought a lot of them and would jettison them nearly as quickly as they were bought.

Guess I am fickle...

Yeah- thinning the herd isn't always a bad thing. Just play each drum and you'll hear your "voice". Again- good luck.

Sounds like a tough situation. I am very lucky to have a great wife who is totally cool with the amount of stuff I have. I am also lucky because I aquired most of it quite a while ago and I doubt I could afford more than half of it now! She even had a basement section of our house turned into a completely finished music room so all my stuff has a home!

At the same time though I would give up anything down there for her as they are just things. She knows how much I love those "things" but I still would if I had to. She is redoing her office with new furniture because she works out of the house mopst of the time and I told her that I would sell my 1972 jazzette set to help pay for it. It ended up working out that we did'nt need to do that and while I love that irreplacible set, I would have done it because I want her to be happy too.

I have maybe three snare drums and one drumset that would be just kill me if I had to sell: My 1969 mod orange super classic, a WFL 1937 twin strainer drum(my first one), a 1966 supra(got it with my first drum set when I was 12) and lasly the cut B/O badge black beauty my wife bought me a couple of years ago. That is a very cool special drum. I am very lucky but I agree that having a happy wife will make for a happy life. It's seems to be all about compromise if you ask me. I would do anything for her.

Good luck!
