Thanks, Wayne. I will be sure to do that!
Glad you chose to keep them as drums, especially the bass drum. All this talk about making tables and other things from them was really bothering me. Cant wait to see the finished project. Good luck.

+1 on this. Actually, whats wrong with restoring them just the way they are? They are cool drums just as they are, why mess with them.
Thanks for all the input, everyone. Here's what I'm starting with.

Got the old paint off the hoops (two different colors, this time) and the hoops sanded. I left the deepest gouges because sanding enough to remove them would alter the shape of the hoops too much. I'll just call it "character." Going with a clear satin poly coat on these. If it looks bad, I can just re-paint them (only better than they were painted previously).

Was thinking the same thing. Clean em up and play them. You can add a orphan floor tom, red maybe for a red-white(silver) and blue theme. Just in time for July 4th. Clapping Happy2 Group Hug
Them hoops turned out pretty good. character is a good thing. Glen has the right idea, but really all you need is a snare, the three tom can be used as rack toms and a mounted floor tom. Them drums will make one killer kit.
Yes, I've noticed this trend also. Rather than the lead singer shaking a tamborine during the instrumental breaks (as they all did in my time), singers now are hitting floor toms and bass drums to add a little more percussion color. I like it.And though a 10x28 bass drum would make an interesting gong drum, I've always had this perverse idea to turn a shallow marching bass into a giant snare drum (played with mallets!). What a surprising sound effect that would be. One of these days....Mike
Mike, I could build that for you
