Kevin, I have seen the pic before but it always gets my heart racing! I can't imagine what it would have been like to be in that store back in the 60's. I went once in 1998 and it was cool but seeing all those amazing new Ludwig sets sure is a thing of beauty!I know you mentioned in another thread about Ludwig churning out tons of Beatle sets but looking at this pic it looks like a lot of sparkles, some sky blue with some other colors. It's hard to tell but it looks to me like I can only see one Oyster Black set.
Well that is all according to Bill Ludwig II who said they were making OBP sets as fast as they could for a few years to keep up with the demand due to Ringo. And it doesn't seem all that farfetched that there would have been a high demand for drums that look just like Ringo's....but B2 said a lot of things that don't seem to jibe with the evidence as it exists today so who knows? Maybe they weren't selling quite that fast....or maybe they were selling so fast that Pro Drum could only get one set or the OBP drums in Pro Drum's shipment were gone as soon as they showed up.
I guess we'll never know...but sets in that color certainly aren't rare by any stretch...sought after yes but rare, no. Matching Jazzfests though are definitely fewer in number.
