I played in the concert and marching band in my jr, High and High school. We took superior in all our band competitions we marched in the Mardi Gras parade, I am a member of Pasic. I know the rudiments. I have not heard of the rudiment you are describing as a swiss triplet ? I am not able to find a live version of Mitch playing manic depression, But when I saw him in a drum Clinic right before his passing in Virginia he didn't play it the way you are saying he did that is all ?

I didn't mean for this to become an argument with name calling. I just had the same idea as a Swiss triplet as Mark did. I thougt I was missing somethiing in the song that I didn't hear all the other times.
I understand what you're saying and I'm not a well-schooled musician or much of a reader, but I translated it to a syncopated beat in 3/4.
OK, timeout! I just wanted some songs with rock guys using various rudiments. It seems to have turned into a war about Swiss triplets and Manic Depression. Let's keep it clean guys, no hitting below the belt.
I`ve played 'Manic Depression' in bands before but followed the guitar riff in a decending pattern on the toms with the count of(1a2-a3+a,etc.) with the swing 3/4 feel. I played the(a3+a) count in a sequence of snare(L),tom(R)and ft(LL)-which meant doing a cross-over with left to the floor tom.I`m not saying this is how Mitch played it but it worked for me and it sounded right in following that famous Hendrix riff.Anyone out there have a vid of Mitch playing this track? I saw Hendrix in 1967 in Toronto and can`t remember how he played the pattern-way too long ago for this old noggin`,lol.

I used to use the intro to "Higher Love" by Steve Winwood to show students some real world usage for a various paradiddles. Of course that is assuming you aren't playing with a percussionist, you have a timbale or second snare on your left and you played the hat instead of rims.
The double bass guys have played four stroke ruffs with the first three strokes being their feet and the last stroke being a flam or double stop with the hands. I am a single bass player so my first two stroke are with my right foot, the third generally on a floor tom with the right hand and the accented last stroke with my left, typically on the snare.
