Note the top two 6" and 8" toms. He wanted $1200 for the whole set-up seen here including a gorgeous set of Sabian AA's with an Ed Shaughnessy 21" ride and all cases. A very decent deal, but I have too many kits now Eye BallThe Ludwig "Stadium" snare uses a mini mach lug. There were two Ludwig mach kits the first "Mach 4" a four pirce in 1974 and "Mach 5" a five piece not sure of date.-kellyj

Wow, what a nice looking kit!! for that price you can't get anything here in Europe......

But if the first 'Mach 4' kit was in 1974...howcome the one I'm interested in is from 1971? And also...on the catalogue, it says 1970......

Ilya, They are definitely three-ply as Ludwig introduced the six ply shells without re-rings in 1977.

Paice, Those are gorgeous Mach Ludwigs you have there!

Ilya That kit you sent me the link to seems like the real deal an original Mach 4 kit in Blue Silk. I would be most certain it has 3ply shells. It also had the rail consolette although it seemed to be missing some pieces. Great looking kit.

thanks a lot. I'm checking it out on monday.

By the way the owner sais everything is original. He never changed anything on the drums.

We'll see....maybe I found my drums to play the pop-rock stuff with.

My other drums are yamaha MCA 20,10,12,14....I think with those 2 kits I can handle all styles.

Ilya, the vintage "mach" kits are relatively rare. I don't think you will be disappointed with it. There were two Ludwig mach kits, the first "Mach 4" a four piece in 1974 and "Mach 5" a five piece, I believe in '75.-kellyj

The only Ludwig catalog that i know of only shows a "Mach4" and Mach 5 set was in 1975 catalog..Mikey

It's the Blue Silk Set.....The drums are from 1971 exactly! Does that mean it's not 3-ply or opposite?I couldn't look at the set closely yet...so don't know about interior yet....No snare drum. But I don't mind (I dont like supraphonic so much.. : -0 sorry), I have a nice DW 14*6.5 brass snare drums from end 70's to fit the set!

The Ludwig Mach 4 and 5 set's show up in the 1975 catalog..The 4 set would be a 9x13,16x16,14x22 the Mach 5 set would be 8x12,9x13,16x16,14x22 bith sets had the same snare..You could have ordered both sets with a 14x24 bass drum..The set you have i don't think its from 1971..On the 1975 sets the shells are clear inside with rings and are 3 ply shells..If the inside of the shells are not like this then its a newer set..Mikey

Ilya,

you must be talking about the kit for sale over here in Belgium.

That's a super kit, love it,... go for it I would say !

Please copy-paste the auction pictures in this thread so we can all drool over them,...

Ilya,

Enjoy your research on Monday when you go to look at this kit.

From all the good posts on this thread, sounds like you'll be armed with knowledge about making the right decision.

Ludwig shells of the early-mid seventies with clear laquer over maple with solid maple re-rings are reputed by some to be the best shells Ludwig ever made. The sound of those kits now aged over 35 years, bear that out. Tuned low-mid range they project a warm maply resonance not heard anywhere else electricit

I have two B & O badge kits (Bue Sparkle and Sky Blue Pearl, sans the mach lugs) that just sing!

Please post pics and let us know the outcome...
