I love this clip, especially at the 1:07 mark when it goes to the live-action playing. Gorgeous drums and wicked soloing. This guy has a bunch of other pretty cool clips on youtube as well....

That is sweet. Technique in the service of music for a solo that you can hum.

Best solo and drum sound I've heard in a long time.

Doesn't get boring and self-absorbed like many.

I think what keeps this fresh and moving is the absolute lack of anything other than the basics. Bass, snare, tom, floor tom, hi-hat. I've been wanting to do a solo where I start out on a bigger kit ( maybe 6-8 piece ) and have someone strip one drum or cymbal away every 30 seconds until I'm left with bass, snare, and hi-hat. I'm curious as to where exactly I would go. I must also admit, I kinda want to play wearing the white cotton gloves.

I swear that (for me anyway) Gretsch have perfected and made the most bonky yet most musical drum sets of all times. I know there are more superior drums out there for many reasons. But despite all the strange oddities that come inbuilt with Gretsch's from any time period, the madness in the sound once you get those heads taught is inspiring and unique.
