I bought the 12-14-20 late 1960's Slingerland drums for $150. I already owned the throne and snare in the picture with these tri-color drums. The horrible white sparkle wrap strips were all delaminated and peeling. The red and blue glass glitter strips were showroom new under the dirt. I replaced the white with new strips of vintage WMP for well under $100. The Black Acrolite was an impulse buy for $35 after a music store didn't want to buy it from a guy who brought it in while I was at that store.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

1973 slingerland purple sparkle 22,22,12,13,14,16,18 chrome snare, hardware and zildjians for $400.00. Set was filthy but cleaned up really nice!

1966 Ludwig downbeat champ sparkle for $300.00. Just the three drums.

1937 very white WMP WFL Twin Strainer drum at auction for $55.00

1950's WFL porta pak 5.5x13 $10.00 at a yard sale

Many other great deals over the years. I have been blessed!

Mitch. I got most of my stuff on storage right now. All of them on cases and its kinda like a big hassle. Check my Facebook (vintage drum bug) I think theres an old pic of the set there. Not sure. There was a time when I was bringing so much stuff home that I wasn't keeping records. As a matter of fact sometimes Ive found drums here that I didn't know I had!!!! Im planning to bring my drums back next summer. Ill try to turn my carport in to another storage. Man, I need a lot of room!

These were my best score - free from a high school friend. The bass drum is the 25" to 22" cut-down, now practical for use until I no longer play.

Rogers Holiday WMP 4 pc set 8x12,14x14,14x20+Matching Powertone…The guy paid me $50 for picking it up!!!!!Got many more stories like these…

No, I think Vinnie's got the winner. Has anyone else here ever been paid to take a vintage set?

My best score was when I was 13 years old and I picked up my first used set: 1946 WMP (very yellowed) Gretsch 13/16/20 with matching WMP snare. Came with the original Zildjian 20 ride, 16 crash, and 14 hats (still own the hats). Paid $100

My memory may be foggy, but I remember there was no bad tuning on that set. Tuned high or low, it sounded soooo warm. God I miss that set. Regret selling it to this day, but at the time, it helped pay for the brand new 8-pc double bass Rogers set that's still in my basement.
