Paid $300 for this at a local music store. Sold it to a member of the Cincinnati Symphony a year or two later. After several more years I traded to get it back. Now it is home to stay.

johnnyringo-- moonweasel-- You guys top the cake so far..I think if i found deals like those i'd have a heart attack..LOL !

I feel very very fortunate! I actually got the majority of the kit for $200 or so, but it needed a few things which were missing (speedking, a period ride cymbal, cymbal stands etc)

I haven't yet gotten any "beyond belief" deals, but I think the $80 I paid for the Duco '59 WFL Barrett Deems that's now in the Gallery and Restoration subs was money well spent, as was the $100 I paid for my '62 red sparkle Student Model Radio King.

For $300 I can overlook the pitting on the hardware of my blue agate New Rock 50N outfit with "this plain steel snare" that when I got it home turned out to be a COB Gene Krupa Sound King. (there was also a very nice set of sheets and pillowcases in the bass drum)

Craig's List transactions all.

After reading this thread, I will continue to keep my eyes open at Goodwill, Salvation Army, yard sales, etc.

My top three scores (and the reason I keep looking) are:

Gretsch Round Badge Progressive Jazz 12/14/20. Local auction. $12.50.

Ludwig Keystone badge Jazz Festival in Champagne Sparkle snare, which was painted blue to match a MIJ set. Came with a Gretsch round badge 3 ply silver sparkle 9x13 tom (which was also painted blue) and 21" Zildjian Rock Ride. Craigslist. $50

Ludwig late 20s-early 30s 6.5x14 Nickel over Brass Standard model Snare. Craigslist. $10

All took a lot of luck to find and a lot of cleaning to get them back into shape. I will be taking the Ludwig Standard to the Chicago Show looking for some missing parts.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72
