18 kits here, dozens of orphans, 40+ snares, about the same cymbals. I play many different rooms, and I've found the 6 or so that get most of the jobs done. Snares? Different story altogether.

I think it's OK as long as one does not sacrifice financial stability. I do play weddings and corporate parties that make lots of it possible, and I realize that I'm lucky to be in that situation.

One concept not mentioned often is that there is joy in ownership. Think of your favorite drum that you own.....ahhhhh.....not a bad thing at all! Of course, there is a jumping off point. I may never own a Tama Bell Brass, for instance, and that is OK. Doesn't mean I won't browse, though!

The only ones that ever say something negative are just jealous! Everyone else thinks its awsome. I have a room dedicated to just drums and musical instruments. I also have them in the liiving room and several in the garage / drum shop.....

From AtlantaDrumGuy

Anyone else get snide remarks when someone how many drumsets you own? Stuff like "you can only play one at a time" and that kind of thing. I guess the average doesn't understand the fact that none of us really need all of these drums, but rather it's that we want them. Heck, some folks have an extra car they don't need...just saying!

Different drums = different sounds. Ask her why she keeps so many spices in the rack.

I would use that arguement but she doesn't really cook. I get her with the clothes, shoes, beauty products, etc.

I'm starting to win her over by finding project drums. She loves the arts and crafts aspect of it. I think that if I can get her involved she may open up more too it.

Lusting after the B.O.P. I have a transition badge oyster black, but would really love the Keystone/rail mount oyster black super classic in the near future. Seems like these are impossible to locate!

I aquired a pretty cool shelf today. It was left behind by a guy renting the building next to mine. The shelves are adjustable. I think I can fit 9 snares on there. I got it for free. I think it will make a excellent snared shelf. There is one more over there Im gonna see if I can get. Then, I will have a little more room for more snares! lol

It's hard for me to downsize too much...especially the drums or cymbals that are difficult to find. I start thinking about how rare the stuff is...and how cool it looks...and how fun it is to play...and how good it sounds...I guess that is the point.
