LOL - It's not going to look like a 'different drum,' just a 'shinier version' of what you've already seen. :p I hope I haven't set expectations too high!

It's coming out great. The lacquer coat was still there so all I had to do was a good clean-up with a cotton rag and some soapy water. The parts went into the tumbler for one hour, just enough time to knock the grimy dirt off and then I polished the lugs and hoops etc. by hand with Nev-R-Dull. It all looks as good as it can. I'm putting it all together tonight. Photos later.

John can you post some interior shots please? I'd like to see the rolled bearing edge and the shell itself inside. Sounds pretty cool. And the fact there's a good chance I'll never see one of these in person it's neat to see. :) Thanks!

Glenn - no problema. I've got an Evans 300 on the snare side that is clear. I'll get some shots that show the vintage NOS Snappy Snares that Mike Layton gave me, as well as the interior of the drum so you can check out the edges.

Hey man, I've never had one of these either! I'm learning about it at the same time you are. You are always welcome in my home and 'mis tambores, son tus tambores'! (My drums are your drums.) You're welcome to play it anytime.

The first bud is on me... :p

Teaser:

Ok, I take back what I said earlier. The drum came out -way better- than I expected! It blew my mind when I finished assembling it and I took a good first look at it. It shines like a Black Diamond. Photos soon.

Hey I'd like to take you up on that visit one day too. Would be fun! I'll bring a few Buds too. ;)

Fellow drummers and drum junkies... get ready for some serious eye-candy! The drum came out better than I could have hoped. It looks spectacular, (even if I do say so myself,) and the wear only adds a ton of mojo to the drum. The second you see it, you start to wonder where it's been, what's it's seen, who played it...

Enjoy,

Gentlemen... you have my permission to drool uncontrollably onto your keyboard! :p

John

PS - If we get good weather, I'll take some shots outdoors in better, more natural light. The light from the incandescent bulb in my basement just wasn't enough. The shots do show off the results of the detailing though. Nev-R-Dull... magic stuff! Brings metal back to life.

Bowing wow he has restored a killer drum how does it sound you have some karma there john aLL GOOD WHAT R WE DOING UP SO EARLY DARN

John your square knot is slipping ..

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Got friends coming over, me and Bev are up and moving around. Hey, what's -your- excuse? LOL

Mike L - Post up some shots of your Black Beauty's! I don't think I've ever seen pix of them. This is as good a thread as any to show them off. I'm in deep monkey-love with mine. I plan to ask some old Italian acquaintances from Brooklyn to dice me up (at death) so I can fit inside the Black Beauty and be buried in it!

Drummer Heaven... :p
