Opinions About Over-thinking Drum Construction Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

This is an interesting thread to me at this time. I have been playing both my Rogers vintage drums and my Tempus carbon fiber drums lately. Like 'em both. The Tempi are easier to position and livelier than the Rogers, but the Rogers have such a warm smooth tone. Can't really make up my mind I guess. I am a player more than a collector, as I am more concerned with the sound than the authenticity of a drum. I only play vintage Ludwig brass snares though.

Leedybdp>The sad truth is unless you have a large resource to money, having a completely mint set of 58 Slingerland's is hard to come by. Most of the vintage drums in the 40 and up age bracket have had some mods done because the original owner probably saw a newer Rogers or Slingy kit with a newer tom holder and said, "What am I doing with this spade thing when I can drill here and mount a Swivo?" We are one of the more industrious of the instrumentalists because our instrument has always been sort of retro and modern at the same time. I would love to have one of the kits that is a true museum piece but I like my imperfect kits because it is fun setting them up and playing them. Setting up the drums at a gig is part of the job but setting up drums in a clean drum room is always like Christmas. Wanting nothing more than to get it set up perfect and then that first rimshot. I still love it. The whole process is what makes us drummers different.

great post and I agree 100%. I'm fortunate in the respect of having drums that get played and also having a few drums that get displayed.

We've successfully accomplished over-thinking the over-thinking.
