Clear Emperor on batter, smooth white Ambassador resonant have been my choice for years.
Also, what type and shape of beater will you use? Hard felt as opposed to wood, acrylic, polycarbonate, etc. will affect attack and tone.
I have a classic hard felt (white) (Tama one, double face felt/rubber, on a Camco HP35).

[QUOTE=polluxonthedrums;178924]Hey
I got eventually my Camco kit which is mint!
The batter head seems to be a Mapex stock head...
What would you recommend in order to get a great sound?
I tend to unmuffle totally the BD inside.
On my 69 20" Lud BD, I have a clear powerstroke 3 that makes the deal.
Is Aquarian better? The 13 and 16 Camco toms have brand new texture finnish Aquarian single ply heads.
Thanks!
C[/QUOTE I use a clear PS 3 batter head w/ super loose tension, just barely past the wrinkles disappearing and no muffling except a Falam Slam patch and a coated ambassador reso w/ medium high tension. The toms (13,16,18) get coated Aquarian Studio Xs, and clear ambassador reso heads. Same tuning style, high on the resonant side and tuned low on the batter side. That style of tuning and heads will give you the classic 70s sound if that's what your after? Also it's a 24" not a 22 so that could make a difference. I found if I raised the tension / tuning pitch of the reso head it eliminated the need for muffling.
Ok many thanks.
I will try that tomorrow. Maybe will the mapex head be ok.
I will let you know.
Best regards
C

hey
so the BD batter head seems to be a PS3 with only a Mapex logo.
I tuned quite high the reso heads (BD & Toms) and quite low the batter heads as advised...
Wouahahou!!! Those are big guns...
I succeeded in getting that fat, dry and powerful sound I was looking for!!!
Thanks!!!
I would say that the 13" tom is almost TOO powerful... I'll try some a little piece of gaffa on the reso head.
Have a nice week!
Charles

Salut Charles,...

Excellent! Shocking Eh? When you tear into them, they open up with projection that is almost scary...Very similar to the late 70s Ludwig Stainless Steel toms in projection but with that clear maple tone that helped make Keller famous. I can't remember who it was, but one of the Camco players/owners here on the forum once said that even his band mates were shocked the 1st time they heard his L.A. era set. Maybe he will read this and relay the story again...
hehehe
I put the bd reso head off and noticed that the shell was SO thin I can "distort" it...
My Lud is a 3 ply + re rings, but I did not notice that.
And the Camco is really light weight...

hey
is it normal when the rim is off that the shell seems to be so easily "distordable" (?!)
it seems very very thin. I noticed the re-ring "jointure" was a little unglued. maybe this explains that not ?
Can I fix by my own the re-ring with wood glue???
Thanks!
