LA Camco 22 BD... best batter head? Last viewed: 10 seconds ago

Loading...

Hey

I got eventually my Camco kit which is mint!

The batter head seems to be a Mapex stock head...

What would you recommend in order to get a great sound?

I tend to unmuffle totally the BD inside.

On my 69 20" Lud BD, I have a clear powerstroke 3 that makes the deal.

Is Aquarian better? The 13 and 16 Camco toms have brand new texture finnish Aquarian single ply heads.

Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the clear pinstripe batter. It has a very deep, interesting & musical voice. Aquarians sound dull , dead & uninteresting. (BTW what exactly is the stock Mapex ? ). Here in LA, we only put Pinstripes on our LA Camco basses.

I put a clear Evans EQ2 batter on my 22" and I'm pretty happy with it. It has that nice deep sound I really love. No felt or inside muffling. Coated white Ambasador on the front. 3 ply shells.

Put a coated emperor on the batter and a coated ambassador on the reso. and use a felt strip on both sides simply can not beat the sound...

I know,... not 22" but on my 24" LA Camco I have Powerstroke III Clear on batter and single ply with felt strip on reso,... Killer sound !!!

Tried also a Clear Pinstripe and a coated Ambassador on batter but didn't like it.

I have a maple LA Camco kit and I use an older Emad on the batter and a smooth Ambassador on the reso. Sounds great to me.

I'm more of a Remo guy so those are the 3 types that I have tried so far.

Also quite new into Camco so I'm still experimenting.

Ambassadors work great on the 12", 13" and 16".

They sing, sing, sing,... but on the bass I went for a bit of a dryer, shorter boomy sound.

I use the SK1 on my Oaklawn and Chanute era bass drums. When I had an LA kit the SK1 didn't work that well nor did the PS3. I sold the kit before experimenting with it more but the Keller shell definitely doesn't respond the same WAY as the Jasper shell.
