I've decided to play my drums Last viewed: 1 minute ago
Play 'em!
love my blue drums and I have a snare scar in the lacquer of one tom, but that's part of the process. (Besides only I ever see this mark anyway).
You have a unique opportunity to set up so many configurations! I bought my kit to configure one way (2X22 w/ 8-10 over the high hat, 12-13-15 up 16-18 down), and have since changed to a totally different one (1X22 w/double pedal, 8-10-12 up 13-15 down, 16 or 18 on the left).
I suggest this, based on my experience changing my configuration:
10-12-13 up 14-16 down, 18 on the left of your high hat (6-8 over the 18 on the left?). If that 18 is anything like mine, run the head as lose as possible and you can do some cool tympani effects with stick pressure on that top head. It comes in handy for fills on the left as well as fantastic accents when struck with the snare rim shot and bass drum at the same time. Maybe add a double pedal if that sounds interesting and it will be a lot of fun for you!

I had a talk with the guys in the band last night, and the guitar player brought up a valid point. He buys nice vintage guitars and plays them. Makes no sense for me to leave these gems in the basement, when I die anyway the wife is going to put em in the street, so I'm gong to enjoy them and start bringing out to gigs. now to figure out the different size configurations.set one24" 12/13/16set two24" 13/14/18set three24" 10/12/14/18set four24" 6/8/12/15/16set five24" 14/15/18/20set six24" 8/12/14/18set seven24" 6/10/12/14/16I bet I can come with 10 more sets and still not use every possible arrangement!!! this should be fun...........
But, where's the cowbell......??...Cool Dude
I'm floored man !!
Playing out will do the drums and you a world of good!
I play all of my vintage sets out. Now I will tell you that none of them are in perfect shape or rare. If they were I would not take them to gigs. I don't take my 1978 BB snare to gigs, don't want that one to walk off on its own. I gigged it once and thought my wife was going to have a fit.
