I have to say, that rack tom bearing edge, with the chip, doesn't look like a factory edge. Is that the reso side? In that picture, it looks like someone cut it. Flat-looking and messy. Is that just how it photographed?

Hey Bill,
I actually think it is the photo tripping you up because I can see where the silver sealer spilled on to the edge in a few spots e. I could be wrong though. They even look flat in these pics for some reason. I can't capture the angle but it is there.

Man...what a score! With the vintage A's included....best of the year so far. Congrats!!! The refurb is coming along nicely. Can't wait for more pics.
Just giving a quick update! Finished up the rack tom today. Filled the old Ludwig holes with dowels and Titebond. Then I took a couple small pieces of burgundy sparkle from the new inlays I got the other day to cover up the bare wood. Took a bit of grey sharpie to make the holes blend with the silver sealer on the interior and popped a vintage Gretsch diamond plate I nabbed of ebay to finish it up. I know I did not really need to cover the plugged holes with wrap and grey sharpie because the plate would cover em anyway but I just wanted to be thorough! Anyway here are some pics of the drum under construction!

Looking great!! Good for you fixing issues that will be hidden. Many wouldn't bother.

Looking good, brother. Nice thorough work; I'm the same way.

Very nice work. How did you cut the dowel after it was glued in? Did you fix the chip in the bearing edge too?
Great job. That kit is going to be a lot of fun to gig out on!
Thanks guys!
I have not fixed the chip on the edge yet. Going to give it a go as is until I can find a method I like to fix it. I am open to suggestions on that one. I cut the dowel as close as I can very carefully (and slowly) with a flexible hack saw. Then sand even more carefully till it's even with the shell. I keep frog tape on the surrounding area as to not scuff the wrap on accident.
