Good Buy on a Rogers Wood Dynasonic? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Loading...

Hello all,

I am brand new to your forum.

I've been drumming for years, but not a big Rogers guy. I just saw an ad on my local Craigslist for a Rogers 14X8 Wood Dynasonic. It looks OK from the pics, however, it needs new snares. My best guess from the pics is that it is late 70's. It has the BIG R Logo. It is not a wrap but a wood finish. I thought the size and being wood (Maple) were kinda rare.

Any ideas what I should pay for it?

Thanks,

Marv

WOW!

That was quick...

It looks like the top one in your pic.

I'm beginning to feel like it may be a little less rare than I was thinking.

He is asking $400 for it.

Hmm...

400 is not a bad price for that drum in good condition. Snares will cost you about 45.00 ordered online from Bentleys in Fresno CA, shipped.

Those are 4 lovely snare drums posted above.

Im looking at them now.... on my rack.

Hey,

thanks for the responses.

I'll have to give it some thought. Maybe he will come down a bit.

Got to tell you....He said the drum sounds like a cross between a gunshot and a tree falling down. I thought that was pretty funny.

Thanks again,

These drums were first offered in 1982, through to the end of production in 1984. Supertens and Dynasonics, ten ply, all North American Rock Maple, shells made by keller. Depths were 5", 6.5", and 8". Supertens in any size are rarer than Dynasonics. The 8" version was the most produced, and the least valuable at this point in time. I would say 300-500 on any given day. Anything above that and a person is just seriously suffering from wanting too much right now. 6.5 inch versions being produced in lower numbers than the 8, will garner anywhere from 400-800 on average, depending on condition. The 5 incher is the holy grail. Very few were produced and the last one I seen sold went above 1500.00. There may have been less than 100 Dynasonics and Supertens made in the 5 inch size. They are far rarer than the 1960s wood Dynasonics.

Prices are variables on any used drum, and it could be much cheaper or much more expensive at any given time.

My first 6.5 inch drum came to me NOS, for 179.00 shipped. Since then I have seen values tripple and sometimes they have even sold higher.

Green felt drums are the earlier, 1982- at least January 1983, which is the date inside my 6.5 inch Superten made for Gina Schock of The Go-Go's. The other drum made for Gina Schock was a 6.5 inch split shell, also dated January 1983, and it has black felts under the lugs. So, the transition from green felts to black felts, which can only be estimated, probably happened about that time.
