Good call. Bass drum mounted cymbals just look clean and classic.

Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp
once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
I was toying with the idea of adding a rail, but I'm not going that far. There are no holes for a rail, but the 13" tom has a clip type plate, so it must have had an attachment like this one on the kick.
Hey Mark,
Nice work on the drum and I think you took the right approach adding the cymbal mount and not adding the rail arm. If your looking for a tom hoop mount period specific arm there's one on the Bay, a bit pricey but there along with Olympic has one

Well, if adding a manufacturer's cymbal arm mount to a bass drum shell is something to mourn, then we must lament that all the manufacturers did that on many of their drums. The question is Mark, did you "mark" out the drill holes carefully, use the right size drill bit, drill it straight through the shell and avoid blowing out a bunch of the inner ply of the drum? In other words, did you do it like the manufacturer (usually) did it? And yes, I realize you don't have a double-spindle drilling station in your storage cubical. If you did all that, my lips are sealed.
It a virgin thing manufacturers didn`t do much of. Drums that are virgin should stay that way or there will be none left.
One day someone will seek a virgin and there may not be any left to complete an original kit model.

Excuse away, but we know better.
Celebrity copies are just as bad. you may get more cash on sales but you thin the herd.
If David is gonna be blamed for copies of his kit, so be it, it`s not his fault people think wrap makes the sound, it only makes the look. Besides, most try to say it came that way because we all know it`s not his. There are very few Ringo from factory kits, but now there are more than produced.
Greed !!

It's not a virgin kick to begin with, there's a cymbal mount directly on top of the drum with a good half inch hole.

The story says you added the cymbal mount,....Don`t it ?

I confess I drilled into a 1960 Gretsch snare to add the snap-in key holder that they put on their later models, and to replace the clunky strainer with a new one that works much better than the original. I did this over 20 years ago when I wasn't very aware of the harm in modifying vintage drums. I still have it, and I still regret it. It's only original once. That said, it's your drum, and if you're comfortable with modifying it, and feel that you did a quality job, then that's all that really matters.
I didn't put the center mount on, that's original to the drum. I put the mount to hold the L-arm, I only had to drill two small holes for the screws.
