Greetings,
I want to use a splash on my bass drum, Buddy Rich style, near my rail mounted rack tom. I have the standard L-arm and eye bolt bracket for my ride, in the classic "Buddy" position.
I don't want to drill my bass drum for another bracket, and it would also be difficult to pinpoint the exact location to drill as well.
I thought about using a cowbell mount or clamp (like the Tama pictured below) or using the DW Claw clamp (also pictured). I also know that Danmar makes a full clamp on assembly with cymbal L-arm (Product # 937- also pictured below). I would put the clamp on the front bass drum hoop. I like the clamp option, because I can put it anywhere I want, and there are no extra holes to drill. If I (or a future owner) decide someday not to use it, no one will ever know it was there.
The Danmar is rather expensive (upwards of $70 online) and doesn't include an eye bolt where the L-arm gets tightened down (dumb!), and the DW and Tama clamps are both under $20, however they don't include the cymbal L-arm. I'm leaning towards the DW, because it would be lower profile and I'm guessing could remain on the bass drum and still fit in a soft case. It also accepts a variety of arm diameters. I would need to provide an the L-arm for either of these on my own.
Does anyone have experience with any of these? What do you use/have you used for a clamp on cymbal holder? I know I could just use a multi-clamp and regular boom arm off of my floor cymbal stand, but I don't care for that look, especially on vintage drums.
I appreciate your thoughts!
V
