Is a Supraphonic LM400 from the 70's with extra air holes a crime, I mean worth it. Last viewed: 7 seconds ago

Should still be a great sounding snare drum for 100 bucks.

Let it pass and wait til Mike has one for sale. :) Unless you have parts lying around etc. But I'd wait.

I have some parts laying around ;)

The deal was too good to pass. The person that sold me the snare also had a really good condition Maxwin by pearl kit laying in his garage and he gifted me the drum set for buying the snare. So it was a win all around. I also got a fake Ludwig snare stand? (Space percussion), some older stands and hardware and an on-stage stands piano bench for free. Clapping Happy2

Oddball, thank you for the explanation. Now I can never unsee the splay on my snare! Ha ha. Probably the hoops are warped. This thing was not taken care of at all. How you recommend fixing that? New hoops?Thank you

I have no experience re-working a hoop, they are either drawn or stamped cold. Not sure it would be worth the effort. The tabs can be tooled straight, and if you lay it flat with weight on it, over a long time it may develop a memory and stay that way.

If you buy new at a store, bring the drum with you, if you buy online, you take your chances.

I had some free time to start the rustoration on the snare. I found a few things that needed attention. The batter hoop has "keyholing" on pretty much every hole. I believe that's why there was splay... and the tension rods have worn rings where they made contact with the hoop. Also, the strainer seems to have the arm twisted out of shape. Should be an easy fix.

I attached some pictures from the progress.

And here it is after just wiping it with a cloth and a mild cleaner

So far I am happy with the results. I'm not looking to have a mint or a museum piece. I feel this way it has history and character.

So, you got all that plus the Supra for under $100?!? That is definitely a good deal.

Enjoy the snare! Once you have it all fixed up it will sound great!

Thank you! I can't wait to have it all cleaned up and ready to play. I just have the lugs and the butt plate to polish.

I'll try and post a picture today of everything I got with the snare purchase.

Nice to see you've started your "rustoration" (you should copyright that!). Wow, I've never seen a t-rod grooved down like that, or a hoop keyholed so badly. Previous owner must have been retensioning the head every time he played.

I was hoping to hear some other suggestions from our experts for repairing those extra holes. I have a Supra which someone drilled to reposition the tone control. I've been looking for a good suggestion on how to fill the two extra holes.

Good luck with yours, and keep updating the progress with some pics.

Repairing the holes would involve fill welding them, which would destroy the chrome around each hole. This would be cost more than the drum is worth.

Have you thought about something like this, with o-rings to prevent rattle? See amazon link below:

I thought about those plugs, but for the time being I am going to see how it sounds first and go from there. Thank you for the link to them. They are in my wishlist now.
