Is a Supraphonic LM400 from the 70's with extra air holes a crime, I mean worth it.

Yeah. I wished I knew what they were thinking. I'm still up in the air about buying it. I don't NEED it, but always wanted to have a Ludwig snare. You guys want to see pictures of the snare?

I'd like to see pictures. I'm just curious what it looks like. Like others have said, if you're not looking to flip it and are okay with what's very much a player's drum, go for it. I wouldn't pay $100, though. I'd probably not be comfortable paying more than $70.

Yeah, I was thinking close to that price range too.

Here are the pictures:

That's really sad. A drum light that with no flaking or pitting would have been a real showpiece all shined up.

I agree with you. Luckily we can all rest assured that it's in a good loving home now. I just bought it. It is in okay condition. Some scratches and some pitting? It has the original drumhead for the reso side Eye Ball and some of the tension rods are rusted.

It's a 207#### serial number. I'll post pictures later as I start restoring it.

Should I buy a 1970 muffler or one of those newer ones? What you think?

Congrats on the purchase. I imagined the vents would be much larger and I'm glad to see they're not, but I'm still a little baffled. Oh well, it'll look great shined up!

It`s something I started a while ago. If your T-rods do not align straight up and down, when you turn the rod, it will pull the hoop towards the shell and or bend the tabs down as you tighten them. Because the other rods are in place, the hoop will not move and the hoop can warp.

Some hoops have an oval shape hole and if the rods are not aligned plumb, it makes tuning take a long time.

You can tell by laying the hoop on a flat surface to see if it lays flat or rocks back and forth. You can also tell by scratches on the shell.

With soooooo many Supra hoops made, some tabs are larger, smaller, or the hole is not centered over the insert on the lug. When sliding a hoop over a tube to tune the head, it is important that they pull straight down. Otherwise you pull towards the shell and down at the same time.

I catch a lot of flak from the members about it`s importance, but my Phonic snares have zero splay due to tolerance accuracy and design and never have trouble fine tuning.

They say I`m too anal about it. But every time I see it I mention it. Sometimes it`s just the way the picture comes out but I see it in all your rods.

Before tightening the rods, move the hoop around and finger tight them, play with it til they are straight. or,.... As close as you can get them.

Oddball, thank you for the explanation. Now I can never unsee the splay on my snare! Ha ha.

Probably the hoops are warped. This thing was not taken care of at all. How you recommend fixing that? New hoops?

Thank you
