Gene Krupa question...... Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Does any Slingerland collectors happen to know if Gene back in the 40's had the letters GK mounted on his drum trap cases? Not painted, but actual nickel over brass initials riveted on the case/cases? or is it possible that whoever ordered the "Gene Krupa super radio king deluxe model", received a trap case like the one shown?

Thanks

I think those initials could be for anyone.

Totally agree...strange though, as inside the case is hi hat, snare stand, pedal, both clamp on cymbal mounts, pair of Spurs, two period correct drum keys, and the cowbell woodblock hoop mount...all Slingerland, and all match to the 41 catalog photo. Oh well, great conversation piece for sure!

True, but it would be really ironic if this case belonged to Gene Kelly. ;)

Surface: show pics of the contents. Sounds like some neat stuff in there.

Good material for an episode of Unsolved Mysteries. The late Robert Stack was eerily perfect as host of that program.

p.s. Is there DNA of Gene available? :)

Some more photos....should have had my glasses on, as they are not attached by rivets, but screws. At any rate, very nice pieces. The person who played this kit, was not a weekend warrior back in the day, and played it quite a bit, as you can see by the wear on the pedal plate. They also knew what they were doing, as the foot plate on the hi hat stand is near mint, as the black you see is some form of rough tape residue..so the foot wouldn't slide during play. Also there is a few sticks as shown. One pair is Ludwig and Ludwig, one Leedy pair and a Slingerland. Had never in my lifetime seen a floor tom, spur foot taped to the end of a stick and can understand why..brilliant idea as to never have it slip out of your hand. Also not shown is a Duplex hoop mounted cymbal stand that was included.

Can only download one at a time for some reason. Never had this problem in the past.
