Rogers plate - what is this thing? Last viewed: 5 minutes ago

Loading...

This is the plate on two Rogers rack toms in an ad I found on CL. It seems to be some sort of clip mount, and it says Rogers right on it, but I can't find a single other image of a plate like this, or any info at all about it.

Anyone know what this thing is? What era it's from? What the accompanying hardware would be?

Or is it just a weird factory cover plate with protruding bolts?

Could use a bit better picture, but Rogers made blank plates to put in place of the various swivomatic and knobby mounts if you elected to take one off a drum. These plates were also sometimes found on timbales if the timbales had a stand with a clip mount instead of a swivomatic mount.

Bingo, they're from timbale drums. Someone had some extra clips hanging around and used them instead of cover plates. Tough to find images of that too, actually, but there are some on eBay now with the same clips. Thanks, VDF

Can confirm Dan's words about the timbales. I have a pair of Rogers timbales and they have this mounting plate.

I think the way it works is that there's a U-shaped slot in the bracket that the drum mounts on, and the bolt heads slide into it.

Odd to find one on a tom, but maybe the tom was intended for use on a separate stand in a big Hal Blaine-style kit.

Dan Boucher nailed it first as it`s for sure a Timbale mount.I`ve got a set of Rogers Timbales and it sure looks the same to me.They were spring mounted tho`with the U-connection as Starship Krupa mentioned. Very strange to find one on a tom.

I went and checked out the kit. 12/13/16/20 Fullerton in black lacquer. Both small toms had these timbale style clip mounts on them, and the kit came with the matching stand. Pretty cool, though obviously not as flexible as Swiv-o stuff.

It came with a set of 60's A hats, Ghost pedal, a few stands and a cheap PDP snare drum. The drums were all missing the script logos and the heads were super tight, at least the ones I tried to remove.

She wanted $700 for the lot; I told her it wasn't what I was after but I'd supply her with all the info needed to sell them to someone else.

Here's another shot of those mounts. They would have been used on a Timbale Twin outfit that had double bass drums and a stand set in between with the timbales mounted on the stand using those plates. That's one of the many arrangements Wayne Brown can use with his champagne sparkle Rogers drums.

That's informative. These were actually rack toms, so maybe someone took timbale mounts and put them on wooden toms. Or maybe it was a special order. Impossible to know now I suppose.

If these timbale mounts were swapped out for the original swivo collets, there would be a large hole remaining in the shell for the hex arm to pass through. If there's no hole in these shells, these mounts were custom ordered.

Good point, there's no extra hole underneath, at least in the 12. I assume the 13 is the same way. If anyone in the area is interested in these drums, I'll get you the owner's email. PM me.
