Duplex Snare Info Request Last viewed: 22 hours ago

Hey all,

I just purchased this snare online...I don`t have it in my possession yet...

Seller states it`s a 5"x15.5"...It has 12 tension rods...Maple shell...No badge...

I don`t know much about this company, so, I was hoping the membership could educate me a little bit...

1) What vintage is this? 1920`s?

2) Approximate value?

3) Would this snare originally have had a badge?

Any other pertinent info would be greatly appreciated...

Pics are courtesy of the seller...

Cheers

Very nice snare!

1) Late 20's early 30's

2) Cant help.

3) Good chance not.

Can't read the stamp on the strainer. If it says "Made in St. Louis" that will help on the year, maybe :-) Cool drums just not much info on them.

Creighton

Nothing special here but I like them.

That is true!! I like to throw that question out there to see if anyone else had recently purchased a similar snare...

Cheers

It wouldn't have a badge in the traditional sense, but should have a grommet (rosewood) wit a duplex 'tin' badge around it like this:

Values have never been what I'd call "stable" for these, really comes down to how bad you want to own it.

I picked that one up at a sale. No one here seems to know the value on these guys though...Shame too because they SEEM like they would have a value of some sort. It's a cool looking drum.

Shawn,

That`s the badge I was wondering if my drum originally had...I`m not sure if shell makeup has anything to do with it...i.e. steel vs wood...

I know some drums from this era didn`t come with badges...

Cheers

I've seen a rare few in the past with a brass(?) badge on the hoops as well, more often then not its the grommet badge you're talking about.

Aluminum or Brass ones like mine are harder to find with the hoop badge, seems more(ish) common on the wood shell ones.
