P86 Millenniam Strainer Last viewed: 53 minutes ago

Please forgive my ignorance ,Ludwig guys. I am new to the world of Ludwigs but, I'm trying to learn. Some of these P86 Millennium strainers sure are beautiful! From what I've researched they fit the p85 hole pattern. True? Once again, please forgive what probably appears a simple question to you guys. Thank you!

Yes, it will fit. I agree they look great, though I haven't used one

Looks better than it works.....

P83's are still the best of all Ludwid strainers (SS doesn't count of course)

Ludwig '67 Classic B.D.P.
Ludwig '79 Classic Pro-beat
C. A. F. '72 New Sonic "The Argentinean Ludwig"
A bunch of Ludwig snares..... + Dyna & P.Tone.

and always trying to recover some orphan drums!!

Worked fine on mine, easy to setup. Much better than the later P85s

I replaced the original strainer (which didn't work well) with the P86 on a '66 jazz festival snare. I think it's a wonderful strainer. Looks great, works great. Very simple.

Hmmm...a few votes of confidence for the P86's. Please, Heraldo, what is it that makes the P83's superior? As I'm trying to learn, I would be very interested. Thank you.

Hi Salty!!

I..M.H.O. regarding mechanism... Less is More!!

I mean, P83 is probably the simplest strainer of Ludwig's "Modern era"..

It's super-smooth, super-fast and, the greatest point of it's design... how simple and accesible is the fine adjustment of the wire tensión by the top knob...It's a rough and firm strainer though! I have about 10 snares with it, they all work super-fine! WalkingYes Sir

P86 is not a bad strainer at all, I certainly guess that objectively the knob position is not the best of the design...

I have just a few "new snares" with this strainer..... hmmm

That's why I said, looks better than it Works!

In the other hand, the P85 is probably the most controversial strainer ever!!! Mainly the last gen of P85 (Chrome face) has a huge percentage of malfunction and complains!!FYI

I have had about 30 snares with the P85... those with the black face (and mainly w/ 12 holes) works much much better than the "modern" ones...

Well.... after all, It's a question of preferences I guess!!Party

Hope it helps Buddy, Greetings from far South!!

Thank you VERY much for the fantastic explanations and reviews, Heraldo! I certainly understand the intricacies of the Ludwig strainers a lot better now. I really appreciate your sharing of knowledge. Thank you again, sir!!!

Argentina, eh? In a very few weeks, I'll be wishing I were there. Up here, the winters are cold and bleak. Hateful. We'll get to Mexico again for a couple of weeks but, when we return, it will still be miserable!
