Yardsale Score: LEEDY!

If the duco really starts flaking and you need to re-wrap, you might try Aquarian American Vintage heads. They're a little oversized to accommodate vintage shells with slightly larger diameters. I'm not sure if the size difference will allow for wrap over a duco finish, but it might be worth a try. If all else fails, you could always tuck your own calf heads for a guaranteed fit.

But I agree with everyone here--your duco isn't pristine, but it looks pretty good from where I sit. Beautiful find!

Kits:

1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

Yes, the day will come when even the really rough Duco finishes will come back into high style. I truly believe that. They are more ephemeral than a wrap and so to find one in great shape is extremely rare. Many have flaky paint because the wood of the shell shrank and the paint checks and then flakes off when that happens. Some Duco color combos are quite unusual because they were sometimes factory-painted to match specific school colors. I also recommend to not alter them.Chewie:

The duco actually looks alot like some of the funkier sunburst guitars, that are out there, my freind has a les paul copy (chineese Ace Frehley lookalike)that is very simular in color, maybe after I get this kit back on it's feet again I';; photo them together.

Again, I just love what you didn't do to the bass drum hoops. Each ding a bit of history...cool thread to revive.

Also, someone told me you went to a lot of trouble to clear out that crisp and tidy display area...:)

What beautiful kit ! Congrats...My favorite Duco finish color combo..But here's what i would do...

I would put about 2-3 coats of Satin lacquer, for two reasons..

1- It will protect the original paint job from further chips or fade.

2- It'll give it a bit of brighter sheen, yet keeping all the vintage vibe and original marks and scratches in tact for years to come..
