Well, that's the kind of "mess" we all want...:)
So nice to see you kept the original DUCO paint job. Very classy looking. The off camera shot is also VERY impressive!! :) Congrats it's so nice to see finished projects.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

What beautiful kit ! Congrats...My favorite Duco finish color combo..But here's what i would do...I would put about 2-3 coats of Satin lacquer, for two reasons..1- It will protect the original paint job from further chips or fade.2- It'll give it a bit of brighter sheen, yet keeping all the vintage vibe and original marks and scratches in tact for years to come..
Ive given this some consideration, but any prep work would seriously knock off a lot of paint. Will the spray keep bigger flakes from coming off?
I don't want to screw this up.
1963 Ludwig Downbeat Champagne Sparkle
1964 Leedy (Slingerland) Blue n Silver Duco
1964 Ludwig Club Date Sparkling Silver Pearl
1966 Ludwig Super Classic Sparkling Silver Pearl
1968 Gretsch round badge modern jazz orange stain
1972 Slingerland 85N Pop outfit Light Blue Pearl
1976 Ludwig Vistalite clear
1981 Gretsch SSB Gran Prix Rosewood
1987 Yamaha Turbo Tour Custom Mellow Yellow
1991 Pearl Export Ferrari Red
Outstanding kit. The only thing I would put on that finish is top shelf wax made for lacquer paint. Anything you spray is permanent and can't be removed without damaging the Duco paint. Chance exists it will harm the original paint on application as well.
Thanks for the pictures of a great drumset.
