Maybe I am thinking this through too much. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a 70's "supposed matching" four piece drum set (with cheap Yamaha snare). The finish appears to be either Mahogany or Walnut cortex. What is baffling me is the interior of the drums and how they correlate with the badges and the timeline histories that can be accessed on the great worldwide web. The badges are as follows.
Kick - 1515866
12 Tom - 2174673
13 Tom - 1510311
16 Tom - 1519460
The time lines that I have read all put these drums in the late 70's time frame. The corresponding shell construction should then be the 6 ply maple/poplar shells without re-enforcement rings. These all have the maple interiors with re-enforcement rings. If these drums were in fact made in 77 or 78 and they used existing new old stock shells, wouldn't they at least have the granitone interiors? Also, all drums have the pointy badges with the exception of the 12 inch tom. Please see the attached pics and let me know what you think.
