Hi all, I just bought a Slingerland COB 8 lug Gene Krupa snare, Niles black / brass badge. I haven't played it yet. (It's in the post) Could someone please review this snare so I can read what you guys have to say. Coffee Break2

And Happy New-ish Year. I've been away from the forum for a while.

They are awesome sounding snare drums very under rated. they tune very easily.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

DITTO! Have them in two sizes, very playable and underated brass shell snares.

Never play it the same way once.

Add me to the list of happy owners. I have a `60s 5", and a `70s 6.5".

Both sound great, are easy to tune, and have the least amount of snare buzz of all of the snares I have owned.

I was never a "Slingerland guy" until I bought one of these, but I will say they are my favorite snares right now.

I agree with the rest of the above comments. Very under rated - especially at the price point. I have a 70s NOS 10 lug 5x14 that is my main home practice snare that I will never part with. You are going to love it!

From Matt M

... and have the least amount of snare buzz of all of the snares I have owned.

I find that to be the case as well and think it's because of the pressed in snare bed, similar to those of the early brass Supras.Coffee Break2

What everyone else has said... and I just love Sticksaver hoops on a snare drum...

Cheers

I just got one of these recently and it's a great drum. I agree about the tunes-easily comment, and it's got a really nice shimmer to the ring. Not boingy or dissonant, which can happen on "cheaper" brass shell drums - of course I know that just because these aren't as much as a Ludwig doesn't mean they are any less of a great drum.

I have a 5" "Buddy Rich" model COB which is just a 10 lug sound king with the TDR strainer. It is one of the best sounding snares I've ever owned, although for me, it's a little finicky to tune. Not sure why....I think it's due to the paper thin bearing edge on mine. However, when it's dialed in it has a deep, resonant quality almost like a wooden snare and rimshots will take your head clean off, baby
