How do you like your jazzfestival snares tuned? Last viewed: 13 hours ago

I can't decide what range that I like my '67 jazz fest snare tuned in. I just replaced the batter head yesterday with a coated ambassador controlled sound head. I know it sounds better with the bottom head cranked up a bit, as compared to looser tensions. So far, tuning by ear and using a DrumDial, i think I have it in the slightly higher than medium range. It sounds ok, but interested to here what all your preferences are. DrumDial setting on top right now is at about 86-88 (if any of you use one). Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

Justin - Crank the snare head (90 on the drum-dial) and then tune the batter to mid-range (75 -80 on the drum-dial.) Set the snare tension like this; engage the snares loose and then tighten them slowly, wait until you hear the snares kiss the bottom head and then add a little more tension - tweak it just a bit tighter. It should be all set-up perfectly for you.

That sounds like a plan John! I will try that tomorrow when I get home from work.

I think that would be about where I like mine. Maybe not quite so cranked on the snare side. I've got a Tama Tension watch and I can give you the settings but I don't think they map exactly onto Drum Dial readings. I might have a look just to satisfy my curiosity.
