I have a chance to buy this five piece Ludwig Vistalite kit from around 1977 for $450. This includes a period matching Acrolite snare. The only issue is that it is missing one bass drum hoop. These are standard sizes, 22x14, 12x8, 13x9, 16x16 plus Acrolite snare. Assuming that these are in good shape, is this a good value? Completed listings on ebay range from $800 down to $550 without a snare. I've never owned a Vistalite kit and wonder what your thoughts are. Thanks guys.

I think it's a good deal if there are no cracks. Buy it before someone else does.
don't sleep on it. go check it out! make sure the bass is in round since it has a missing hoop and check for cracks.

It's at a drum store that is not in my town. The lady who is selling it claims that the shells are in great shape and that the only issue is the bass drum hoop and a screw missing on one of the bass drum legs. I do not need another drum set but have never owned a vistalite. I am asking for your opinions because I have to get a pretty good deal to justify buying another kit. You guys probably are aware of the wife factor. It seems like a good deal, but someone here may see something or point something out that I would miss. The badges are all in the 1,112,000 range which puts them around 1976-77. Thanks guys.
Don't know why you're hesitating. It's a really nice vista kit for half what you'd normally pay. Look up the sold listings for vistalites at ebay.
Run, do not walk, to the music store and buy them. Excellent deal even with the few missing items.

the back bass drumhoop missing and the t rodas and claws will set you back at least another 100.00 make sure the bearing edge isn't chewed up, still a great price on them.
I would have to buy these in a heart beat!!! Not only the price but my birth year is 77 and I always said I would buy clear if I was going to buy a vista kit.
Good luck!

As the others have said, it sounds like a good deal to me. If you don't want them are they anywhere near Virginia? :)

It's simple math to figure out value: $450 for 5 drums = $90. per drum. You might be able to buy the 12" tom in the kit for $90 somewhere, but where can you buy a 22" vistalite bass drum, 16" floor tom, 13" rack tom and a matching snare drum for $90 apiece?
If they are in good shape and you have the expendable cash, it's a 'No Brainer'... If you get bored with them, you can turn around and flip them for $850 in a heart-beat.
John
You guys convinced me. Thanks. The lady is going to do a once over to check for cracks in any of the shells and call me back. Me thinks that I am gonna get em!!!!
Thanks guys.
