Does installing a tom mount bracket de-value a bass drum? I just can't seem to get the right position with my toms with my 24" sling bass and I was thinking about putting a mount bracket and wanted some feedback good or bad?
Tom mount on a virgin bass drum
70's Pearl Fiberglass Ivory
leave it factory, it is the way it left the factory.
Gary maybe try to just angle the bass to the right a bit like a double bass kit. And stand mount the toms front and center. That's what I do if there's no mount on the bass. Try it a bit and see if you can adapt to it? Or maybe use one of your WMP bass drums that has the bass mount. I'd try to work around the problem before adding a tom mount for certain. She's only a virgin once!! LOL.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Leave it as is! Virgin basses are far less common and generally command a higher price than one drilled for a mount. Long before beat-up old drums were considered "vintage", I ignorantly drilled a virgin Ludwig Transition-badged bass drum and installed a Pearl mount (Eye Ball Arrrrrghhhh!). I still have that bass, and it sits in my basement as a constant, painful reminder of my stupidity. Nothing but regrets for all the stupid mods I butchered into factory-original drums.
Don't do it. As Glenn mentioned, there's too many stand mounting options out there which will place your toms exactly where you want it

Correctly installing a period-correct and brand-correct tom mount to look as though the drum left the factory with that mount has zero effect on the drum's value unless the potential buyer is completely averse to tom mounts on bass drums. There are several times the number of vintage bass drums with tom mounts as there are "virgin" bass drums. And, if the drum shell has holes for lug screws or a badge grommet, the virginity was lost the day the shell was drilled.
Get a Ludwig Atlas Arch. You'll have a nice mount attached to the bass drum but don't have to drill any holes....assuming a Slingerland drum won't spontaneously combust if you bolt some Luddy hardware to it.
I have a "virgin" keystone badge 18" bass drum that I could never bring myself to drill and the Arch solved my problem brilliantly.
Don't violate that bass drum, leave it virgin!
I would never do it (Again).... in particular if it's the white one..
Try some Iso mounts hung from the cymbal stands.. lots of flexibility there..
Cheers

[QUOTE=K.O.;308556]Get a Ludwig Atlas Arch.
Remember, the Atlas Mounts only spread to 1 3/4 inches center to center for the lug swap out.
So check the hole spacing on the Sling BD lugs before buying the Atlas.
It did not work for my Rogers BD lugs.
The Rogers BD lugs are 2 5/16" C to C.
I used the Atlas on a Rogers tom.
That, it will fit on.

I haven't checked the slingy lugs so you're right to suggest that. I think they would work...but if not, a pair of DW claw brackets will hold that arch quite nicely.
