Some folks need to learn the hard way to keep quiet about such things. Now you know why...sorry for your lossCooked Egg
Guys - I could have kept my mouth shut and nobody would ever know who bought what. I would be happy to compensate Mike with a cymbal or whatever as it is already my habit to do so. Anybody here who's ever done a favor for me was amply rewarded for their efforts. I like Mike and I just wanted to be honest with him and tell him the truth.
Mike, PM me. If there's anything I can throw your way as a thank you, I'm happy to do it. There was nothing malicious about my buying the drums. It was a situation where there is a bag of gold sitting on the ground and ten guys standing around it discussing whether one of them should pick up the bag. I just picked up the bag while everybody else was discussing it.
I got a nice 70's hollow logo 22'' you can have ... just let me know!

Well, I'm -in- the USA! And no, I couldn't resist. I also couldn't stand idly by while everybody is having a chin-wag about a kit that was going to be scooped up by the first knowledgeable guy to see it. It was too much pressure, I felt like I had to 'get it while the getting was good.' The store owner told me that he'd already received a lot of calls about the kit. He told them all that he was not willing to ship. The guy that called before me had his credit card bounce when he tried to make the buy and then I called. It was -only- because I threw money at the guy (an additional $200.) and asked him 'pretty please,' that I was able to close the deal. Otherwise, it would have been a local sale only. If I didn't snag them, the next caller after me would have gotten them. I don't feel bad that I got them. I'm happy to compensate Mike for the lead.

Thats a nice gesture i suppose to offer someone after what you did to him, and it was commendable you had the stones to admit what you did. Im not sure if that wasn,t bragging a little though, like a "look what i have"!!..If it was me you rolled over we would be having a private conversation for sure.

I can accept your criticism up to the point where you use the term 'roll over.' I didn't "roll" anybody over. That implies intentional theft. This wasn't that. And no I'm not "bragging" it's not something I would do under the circumstances. I "brag" when I do a good job restoring a kit.
I knew I was going to catch some heat for buying this kit. But I'm not going to stand by and let anybody attribute any low motives to me or to paint the situation any way they want to. I'm not a dishonest person and never have been. Ask anyone who knows me. I fessed up and told the truth. I'll deal with any consequences of my decision. But you can save all that "if it was me you rolled over" threat crap for drama class.

To put things in perspective...
I flipped a 20,12,14 and matching 8 lug 5 by 14 Camco Oaklawn kit around 3-5 years ago in Maple for a little over 4K!
Put them on ebay...and they jumped up $1,500 the first day!
They were super clean though....
For those that don't know...Geo Way drums pre date Camco.......so are even MORE rare!

I knew what they were right away, Blair. I read the post at 1:30 or so and two hours later, still nobody pulling the trigger. I couldn't take it, I didn't want the kit to get away because everybody was just standing around talking about it. Like you stated, it's just way too rare a set of drums to let it go.

We may not get what we want but we will always get what we deserveCoffee Break2
OK-
The kit was mine. I bought it yesterday for a very fair price and flipped ASAP for the store we own.
I sold it to the first buyer with money.
Did he get a deal? You bet.
Does this kit need a bunch of work? Sure does.
I say he doesn't owe anybody anything.
He pulled the trigger on a heck of a deal- that's all.
Glad it went to someone who can bring this kit back to its glory.
spidey66 - Thank you for chiming in and it was a pleasure doing business with you. If you check my past posts you'll see that I've been restoring drums for over 25 years. I have the lugs and Camco bottom hoop that the floor tom needs. I even have an old George Way badge for the bass drum. This kit will be in good hands and it will be lovingly restored back to it's original shining glory. I've been playing for 50+ years. The drums will be appreciated, cared for and most importantly, they'll be played.
Looking forward to receiving them. Hope we can do business again in the future.
