Very nice Andrew~! That was a really good deal. Glad you were able to grab them,

Thanks. It did seem like a very good deal and I'm very happy with them in case you couldn't tell:). Due to the shipping costs it is the most expensive kit I own but it has a presence that non of my other kits can compete with.

Blair - I had forgotten about that kit of Neil's. I've never seen it in the flesh but I've seen photos of it. In fact it's the one in this clip yes? [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDff0Mjvij8"]Pajama Club - Tell Me What You Want - YouTube[/ame]

Nice kits folks. Red66charger. Is that hihat stand original to that set! Or the type that came with those sets ? Can you give me some info on it?

The hi-hat stand came with the kit when I acquired it, but I don't know when it became part of the kit. The bass drum is a Slingerland Epic II so I would've thought an Epic hi-hat stand would be more "correct". I bet Mark is correct about W&A. I can take better pics of it if you need them.

That's a beautiful set! I'm in the same position of not have the 16" FT. I do have the 14" like you and all the mounting hardware but it seems a lot to hang off a BD hoop. What is the device you are using to make it a FT? I've seen them but only for 8 lug 14" drums. Cheers

Andrew, the 14" is on a Gauger Percussion RIMS Dynamount Suspension System. I was fortunate to find a used one with Gibralter mounts and legs included. It works very well. I removed and stored the mounting hardware for both the 13 and 14. Both are on Gauger RIMS mounts.

Congrats on your "new" Radio Kings. They look awesome.

Very cool set! Those were made right at the end of WWII. I have a Slingerland letter that explains the use of wood hoops with inlay on toms. Brass was in short supply during and right after the war, so things like brass hoops and cymbals would not be available until 1946-47.

Thanks for your input Mark and I'm glad you like them, my only problem is finding a matching snare with the aluminium badge, not easy in Britain and shipping from the US has become prohibitively expensive.

I will find one eventually I guess, it always amazes me that people split the snare from kits like this.

Agreed! Mine had a matched snare in the past. I keep looking for one. there's a bare shell on Ebay, but it's from a well known drum stripper, and the shells more then I paid for the whole set! And, I try not to patronize those kinda guys......

They aren't museum quality, the non-matching snare has a Dunnet throw and butt (able to add with no additional holes drilled), the 13 and 14 toms used to have tacked heads, there's some paint chipping, and the 16" floor tom is later than the rest of the kit.

But I get to drive a big band with these and they sound incredible. Maybe not the best but definitely my favorite drums of all time.

2 of the guys in the trumpet section say they can feel air on the back of their legs being moved by that 28" bass. AWESOME!

I agree. I feel very fortunate the snare was still with mine. The seller told me he was offered good money for the snare alone. He is not a drummer, or musician for that matter, but he still felt it would be wrong to split the kit up. I know he was expecting to make more money on the drums than he did and I've wondered if he regretted not breaking it up. He told me he was glad they were staying together. As long as I'm still breathing air, they will. My drumming son will be inheriting my collection so they should be able to stay together for another 60 years or more.
