Wow! I didn't know until just now that DW copied a Camco copy of a George Way cymbal L rod receiver as far back as 1953. But, seriously, folks.......that receiver is a new one to me. It looks to be quite substantial. Consider this.....the Leedy deco lug is essentially a half circle with one flattened end that has similar sculpting on the sides to the sculpting on the top of this receiver and the original George Way/Camco/DW lug. The sculpted top of the circle, when cut in half, becomes the sides of Leedy lugs.
Wow,... are we looking here at the birth of the turret lug ?
We very well could be! According to my Leedy book, George Way worked for Conn/Leedy until 1955 when it was bought Leedy was purchased by Slingerland.
This place is like a well-stocked candy-store of drum information!
Love VDF...

Wow, there's a lot of interesting stuff going on with those...the four FT legs, the turret lug!
By chance did the seller know anything about who the previous owner was?

Congratulations on a beautiful set of drums, I too saw and was admiring them when they went up for sale on eBay.
It makes one wonder just how many George Way designs are out there that he was never given credit for while working for others.

I asked for more info and the seller said was that they got them from an estate sale in FL. That's all I know about these beauties...
There’s currently a Leedy/Camco turret mount for sale on Ebay.

Damn...and I thought I had the only one! Guess mine is the only one we know of so far with a t-handle...hahaha. Way to call it in the first place, Stedi!
I was also admiring this kit on ebay and even posted it on the Ludwig vintage snares and drums site on facebook. I wrote the seller because I was curious about how the heads were mounted. If I'd had the $$$ I would have jumped on these - possibly the most beautiful kit I have ever seen. Congrats!!!
