Hi Guys. I recently picked up for not too much money a 1960 Slingy Krupa snare. 14x5.5" one ply solid maple shell in the same sky blue pearl as my late 60's Slingy kit. The problem is the PO removed the original 3 point strainer and put in a generic Ludwig style strainer and butt. He or she also removed the original muffler and put in a Ludwig style muffler. So this thing has a few extra holes. I'm sure it will never be a collectable drum because of this but I'm pretty excited to have it as a players drum with a matching wrap to my kit. My dilemma is whether to pay through the nostrils for an original 3 point strainer and butt or just put on a high quality modern strainer and butt and be happy. I'm not even sure that the old 3 point strainers are all that great having never had one. I'm not sure it's worth putting that kind of money into a snare with extra holes either. I'd love to know what the collective wisdom of the group is to what makes the most sense for this particular drum. Thanks for any sage advice.
Steve
