A couple of more pictures from after I put new batter heads on the toms and snare.
1966 is considered by many to be sort of a high point in pop culture, at least to those "Baby Boomers" that were alive at the time (I was only 4 during most of that year but started kindergarten that fall). The Beatles, James Bond, Batman, Star Trek, The Monkees, Gemini space shots, and lots more reached their peak during this year. I guess this set is another example :)
I paid $900 for the set so it wasn't a "steal" but with the matching snare (and three 60's A. Zildjians) it probably was a "fair" price. As I said drums in this condition don't pop up too often around here.
that's a sweet looking ride cymbal there too kevin. 50's avedis? did it come with the kit. sorry if I missed that part..
mike
Very, very nice! I would say 900.00 is more that fair, geez, givin the condition its in and the cymbals, I say you did steal it, way to go!
PS,( were the same age)
I think you did well. It's nice having a vintage kit in ready to play condition not needing anything. Plus yours came with cymbals. So like others have said you did well!

It's an 18" crash/Ride (not sure it's actually a crash/ride but it seems to do both pretty well). I also got a pair of 14" hi hats. I'm assuming the cymbals date to the same era as the drums so mid sixties Zildjians.
Also included was a Ludwig cowbell and holder, 1121 Hi-Hat, a Gretsch snare stand (not the snare stand in the pics), a Speed King, and a porta-throne.
Not a bad haul.
These were at a consignment store. The store cuts the price in half after 60 days have passed and these were originally priced at $1800. I sweated out the 60 days and showed up first thing in the morning on the 60th day. After 90 days they cut the price by 80% so these would have been $360 at that point. I was tempted to play the odds and wait it out but I don't see how these would have gone unsold until then.
