Ludwig Blue Christmas-1966 Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I brought this set home two weeks ago today. 13/16/22 with matching Jazz Festival. Since they are date stamped from late November 1966 I don't think it's too much of a stretch to imagine them turning up under some very lucky person's Christmas tree that year.

The cool thing is it appears that whoever had them lost interest fairly quickly and these were stashed in an attic or closet since then. They haven't been messed with in any way. They still had the original heads all around and no holes, black paint or other funny business. Other than some chips in the paint on the bass hoops these are pretty much as they left the factory. That makes them a rare thing around these parts and I felt obligated to snag them if only to preserve them in their present state...and also to brighten up my own Christmas x-mas3.

Merry Christmas! Excellent choice. Really nice kit enjoy them~!

I remember back in junior high the high school jazz band used to come and play a few shows a year. The drummer had a kit just like this which I just thought was the best looking kit ever. He was also one of the best drummers I've seen. Such a great natural player. Sure humbled me. I've always wanted a nice Ludwig kit like those!! They are Perfect. Clapping Happy2

What is the date stamp? My birthday is in late November of 1966. These drums might be the same age as me!

How cool! I've got it's cousin from October '66. It came with the Super Sensitive pictured, but I've since picked up a matching Super Classic.

EDIT: No it did NOT come with the Super Sensitive... It came with some early Pearl snare. Forgot about that. EDIT mode off, back to leisurely reading... :)

Same thing with these, they lived in a closet for forty years.

Beauties.

This has me thinking. ..

Does anyone know of a vintage drum with a leap year February 29 date stamp? Curious.
